Howdy Survivors! Finally, this is my first post here. Grabbed my first Survive! knife (5.1) about 6 months ago. I'm loving it!!! Actually, I think I may have developed some sort of brain malfunction that is forcing me to acquire more Survive! knives whether it is through the preorder system or figuring out how to quickly select and pay for a factory second on Mondays. I have a good excuse to buy extra knives cause my children and wife may need a couple even if they don't realize it yet. I'd love to get my daughter something with a purple handle (hint hint.) Awesome craftsmanship coming out of Idaho!!! Its kinda cool too because I live about an hour away from where these fine tools are made.

Patriot Leather just sent me sheaths for my 5.1 and 4.1. Couldn't be happier with the quality. Cheers!

BTW, photobucket is driving me CRAZY. It is slow and obnoxious so you have to view the pictures upside down. Sorry.

Hi bud, welcome to the survive forum. Your old ratweiler is in good company with some S!K companions. Guy has the ergos dialed in.

Haole, glad to have you here! Very nice pair of blades you have there. Happy hunting for more knives for you..... I mean your family ;)
I do think there are some purple scales floating around for some of the smaller old spec knives. Definitely follow up with the results of your conquests. All your pics turned out right side up for me, so you must have overcome your photobucket issues.

I'm really glad you had a good experience with Patriot Leather. I personally won't support Patriot (did he used to be Skystorm?) because of his views on SURVIVE! and how he interacted with some regulars here and Ellie in another thread in another forum not so long ago. I'm actually really surprised he made a sheath for your 5.1 as he said he had zero plans to make sheaths for new spec GSO's.

Sagewood works pretty closely with SURVIVE! and does some pretty impressive work.

I like the idea of that turban in your avatar and if Survive! doesn't make me a hat soon, I'm going to buy and send Guy, Ellie (hers in a delicate violet color) and Team Survive! members some turbans marked as "courtesy of Survivors!" :D

Skylar does have his opinions I don't agree with, but is a fantastic leather craftsman and worked with me for a cross draw sheath for my lone star/hiking buddy. I love it!

Glad to have you around. Be careful, S! Blades can be addicting. Good luck finding some purple scales. I know they made them at one time for the 4.1, cause that's what I got momma toothpick. I don't think she'll part with them either.

I have a patriot leather bushcraft sheath for my 5.1. It rocks. It was made when they were known as skystorm leather

Just checked out Sagewood leather. They make some pretty sweet sheaths too. Looks like they have new spec 4.7 sheaths ready to go. I will give em a try on the next round. Kydex is great most of the time but if I am carrying a blade in the neighborhood, leather seems a bit less 'tactical.'

That purple handle is just so cool. My little girl is gonna turn 3 soon. She already has an unsharpened aluminum training knife that she uses just like Daddy. She'll be ready to use the real thing before long. Gotta love girls and knives!

Leather is less tactical and once treated correctly against the elements, it will definitely protect your knife much better than any kydex can when you have dirt / sand on the knife and happen to sheath it without having it properly wiped down. Kydex is a pretty good way of storing your knives in less hostile climates but it will never beat well crafted and well protected leather sheaths. Expoect to spend almost as much on a great leather sheath (if not more in some extreme cases) than your $200-$250 knives!

Very cool! Sounds like you have some good plans in place.
