I have a Patrol Machete BLANK. Camillus. Has BK&T stamped on blade. Un-ground blade. Positively heat treated. I guess I’m looking for an opinion on whether I should attempt to put a flat grind on this myself or put it up for sale as is. My skill level with grinding a blade this size is about sixty percent chance of not destroying this thing. I’d really hate if it went bad. I’ve turned out some nice blades but none this large and all before they were hardened. I had this blank for about five years; saw this Becker forum and it got me wondering where I had stashed this thing. Either way it will end up for sale. Part of me is saying, “I can do this”, the other is saying “Don’t be stupid”. Instead of flipping a coin, anyone what to sound off? I have pics but haven't figured out how to post just yet.

I'm sure there are plenty of folks who'd want that. Get a paying membership and put it in the exchange. There are also a bunch of super qualified knifemakers who might take on that project.

As much as I like DIY projects...I dont think I personally would wanna try this on a rare item like a BK6. But this is America..and you are free to do so, and if you do, we demand a pictorial/how-to thread LOL

LOL. Thanks guys. Think I'll look into the paying membership deal; just came back in from the barn and don't like the way the belt sander was looking at me.

There are a lot of great people on this forum that can help you get the knife exactly the way you want it. Thanks for making your first post in 6 years right here in BK&T though, that is pretty cool. If you want to get rid of it though, I am sure there are a number of people here that would gladly take it off your hands, but as far as getting it annealed, ground, then heat treated, you might want to head over to the Knifemaker services wanted area here:

I am sure there are tons of people that would be more than capable of helping you out for a modest fee.

That's a big blade... I'm not sure I'd want to give that a try, although I've done some short swords. If you're not 100% confident, I probably wouldn't try it.

The hell with all that go for it, I would do it in a heartbeat. Even if you mess it up you, there is enough steel there to fix it and you then you will have a sweet custom blade.
