Hi all,
I like the looks of the ex Hog, but I won't buy it, unless the handle is tilted like the Machax's. Due to inertia, long blades like machetes are hard on the sinews of the wrist if you use them for a longer period. Compare hacking with the Machax to another knife the same size. You can put much more punch into the Machax because the wrist is in a more natural position and therefore control is much easier. I mean, there is a reason why walking sticks' handles are tilted and why revolver handles are not in-line with the barrel. Ergonomy is much better!

Andy, welcome to the forums all the way from Switzerland!
I will certainly buy one of the new Patrol Machetes. I feel that the extra length of the blade will overcome the need for an angled handle since it will take less of a swing to perform the same about of cutting with a shorter blade swung harder.
Keep in touch!

Ron, I didn't mean to shorten the blade. The swing is o.k. but you also have to swing it back - and that's when the wrist is in an awkward position. A long blade is also a long lever straining the wrist. When the joint is overstretched you can't apply as much force than when in a natural position. When I first used my Machax, I thought this (tilted handle) would be the solution for easier machete handling. That was ten years ago.
Besides, in Switzerland we have a Bolo-like blade ("Gertel") for farmers and gardening (straight handle) which has a hook at the end of the handle. When you just stand there doing nothing, arms dangling, it cannot slip from your hand. And when you need a free hand you can hook it into a jeans pocket for a while. A feature I've never seen elsewhere. I hope Will reads this. Hi, Will.
