Can anyone provide me with some insight on how this is achieved? Gotta be some chemical involved eh?

Do you have a pic of what you are wanting? Ti is oxidized by heat or with electricity in a electrolyte solution. The amount of voltage and strength of solution gives a certain color. Vary the juice and the oxidation changes color. If you anodize your highest color first you can then go back and either sand off some of the oxidation and go through the process again but at a lower color to get multiple tones. Place both slabs in the solution at the same time to get the same colors.

Spray glue, model mask, plastic tape and such can be used to layer the color patterens as well.

Heat coloring works by oxidizing the ti as well but has a steep learning curve if you are looking to replicate a patteren.

Thanks for the reply. I am familiar with anodizing by heat or electricity generally, but this is something Warren Thomas seems to do on a lot of his customs. You'll see other people do it too and call it different thinks. It actually looks very similar to a timascus, but from what I understand, it is not. It is some form of anodizing.

Some pictures of what I mean can be found here:

I have not had a chance to try it yet but try using oil like wd-40 while doing the ano . Just a guess though.
