Don't know him. Do you mean Paul Bos who heat-treats steel? Don't know him either :D but I know he's reknowned for his consistency in heat treating. Maybe try a google search or contact Buck Knives.

Let me just say....you have NO idea what you are missing...Paul Charles Basch is one of the greats of the custom knife world. He was dealing hard- core custom knives, I am sure, Stretch, before you were born.

He was with AG for a while, but had a stroke, and when he was on the mend, AG kicked him loose.

Julie Hyman from AZCK should know how to reach Paul:

Don't get cute, Stretch...I just did you a favor, by educating you.

I doubt Julie has his contact info anymore.

Paul moved up north a couple of years ago, moved in with his Brother and stayed a while there but his health deteriorated again. He has undergone some serious Surgery in re to his Diabetes. Last I heard was that he moved into an Assisted Living Facility near his Brother but I can't recall the name of it. If I remember I will post it.

I learned a lot from Paul (as did countless others). He lived life his own way and enjoyed Knives and Trading like nothing else. He had an amazing memory and many Dealers and Collectors were not disappointed when they had occasion to test it out.

I wasn't trying to be cute Steven. I had never heard of Basch and, even if I had, like Bos, I wouldn't know him but rather know of him. I honestly thought the OP had misspelled and was thinking of Bos.

By the way, Steven is right. It's a shame that there aren't 100 replies to this post. There would have been 5 years ago. Everyone knew Paul and his value to the knife world. What a man.

Sharla,

Please, Please, if you find a number for Paul let me know! Or an address so I may write to him!!!

I lived with Paul in the Mid 1970's to 1980. When he owned Seaside Photo Studio on the Pike in Long Beach California. I would really love to talk to him!

Your help would be greatly appreciated!

My E-Mail is :

Rowdylabouff@msn.com

Thanks!

STeven,

Paul had a heart attack in Chattanooga I not only kept him on the payrool, I sent his friend Amy to take care of him in the hospital until he could come home and paid all of the expensies as well as her salary. I carried him through his stroke the next year as well.

You make me sound like a monster and that is unjust.

Talk to his brother Don about how Goldie and I treated Paul.

Edited - My mistake as I thought AG meant to reply to the other thread, I didn't see Steven's response on this thread (I have him on Ignore).

BTW - I had dinner with Paul the night before his Heart Attack in Chatt. I can vouch for AG's response (not that I need to) in that he sent Amy to stay with Paul as each time I visited him she was nearby.

A.G.....I never implied that you are/were a monster....I simply repeated the most simple basics as I heard them from one party, who is no longer with us....don't believe that I have ever caused anyone to look down upon you or cast aspersions on you, or your character.

Pearls of wisdom you are missing Mr. Enigma.....an honor you do me by placing on ignore...much appreciated.

STeven,

Never, until now. I have always thought of you as one friendly to me.

Who ever told you that I pushed Paul out as heartlessly as you stated lied to you and defamed me. I am sorry that you thought that it was true.

all the best,

A, G.

I was there. A.G. and Goldie treated Paul very well---they loved him. He wasn't just an employee---he was a dear friend. There were, however, certain effects from Paul's first heart attack (not to mention the strokes that followed) hindering his abilities. It wasn't Paul's fault. It wasn't A.G.'s fault. It simply happened. That's a fact. Out of respect for Paul, these things were rarely discussed in detail. And I'm hoping that respect will continue even after Paul's passing.

Thank God for his brother, Don, who was there in ways the rest of us couldn't be.

I lived with Paul for some time taking care of him, and it was at my request that Don come and get him because he was getting in to bad a condition for me to be able to help him.

I met him, once, at A. G. Russell's place, several years ago. He was there appraising knives for anyone who would take the time to talk with him. (Grand opening of the 'New Store') He priced a custom I had gotten for a song ($300), and that relatively new maker, at the time, is now selling at the level Paul appraised the knife for. I greatly admired his knowledge then, and count it a priviledge to have spent a little time with him. It's sad to hear that he has passed.
