OK, first of all, yeah, i shoulda asked these questions when I was on phone with him tuesday. :) But, I was on way from one class to the other, so I couldn't talk long. Will say that he seems to be a great guy, a nd very pleasant to talk with.

BUT, since I hope to be grinding a few pieces of 440C this weekend, I need to find out how the whole process works with him.

First off, is it just heat treat, or does he do tempering too?
ie, do I just send him the blades, and then temper them myself when I get them back, or do I have to tell him what to temper it to too?

I'm sure there are other things I'm missing too, so since I won't have a chance to call him again till friday at earliest, any help y'all can give me on here instead would be faster, and greatly appreciated.

He does the whole thing, heat treat, cryo, multiple tempering.
When you send the blades, make sure they are clean. They will come back in the same condition, with a light straw color.
He knows what rockwell hardness to take them to.
Make sure to mark the tangs with the steel type, and your initials. Use a vibrating marker etc.
Wrap them in newspaper, 5-10 high. Tape the ends. Use newspaper for packing, DON'T pack with foam peanuts.
Other than including your return address, and packing slip, that's it.:D

I knew someone would be able to answ.re and quickly too, thanks mike. :)

Only question would be: vibrating marker?

I'm guessing you're right Rokjok, and I really shoulda been able to figure that out. Thanks. :)

Anybody know his turn-around time?

I have my first batch almost ready to go out to Paul and was wondering about how long it would be before they come back.

Whatever the transportation time is, there and back, plus 2-3 days. He has a fast turnaround.

I called him on Wednesday and at that time his turn time was 5 days. Must be a little busy right now.

Rick
