Just the other day I saw a Paul Chen Hanwei Forge Bowie knife advertised by an internet dealer. Does anyone know anything about this knife? It is a traditional looking bowie with an 11 inch blade, and the advertisement claimed it is made from forged 440C.

All I know about the Paul Chen products is that their "practical" series of swords are supposed to be good ones for the money.

Hi. Sorry if this is resurrecting an old thread for no point..but I just spotted these too and there's no information on them so I was wondering if anybody had actually tried one? Thanks, Rod.

I have one of the Seax knives that Paul Chen makes for CAS I and it is one Hell for tough knife. My one criticism is that the scabbard is a bit loose for the mode of carry for which it was designed. It results in the knife falling out too easily. I made field modification and now it works just fine.

I don't own this blade, but I had a chance to fondle it - the blade is marked 440C, so barring tests saying otherwise, I'd say that was an accurate claim. The handle is some kind of wood, with really nice checkering. It was comfortable for me, but people with soft hands might complain about it "biting" too much. The sheath is really nice - the sample I saw was well-matched to the blade, with no play when inserted. It has a frog made of stainless steel on one side, but no belt clip.

The blade is almost all fuller. I was really impressed by the quality of it - Hanwei seems to have put a lot of effort into finish polishing. The edge was okay, too. The owner of the store I saw it at told me that some were razors, and some were just passable. The one I held shaved paper, but wasn't scary sharp. Sorry I can't give you more than a superficial impression - I do think it would hold up well to heavy use, though. Even with that huge fuller, it was a nice, substantial piece.
