You would have had a bit more luck with this post down on the sword forum. However, I'm not sure what dark spots that you are referring to but I believe that model is supposed to have some blade activity so maybe it is that. Or if they in fact are polishing off then just polish harder. 
As far as I know no PK is stainless. This means that you will need to oil it routinely or you will find that you have a few more then a few dark specs.
I can't comment on the fittings, I've never seen them myself but as you say this is sort of the low end of the scale so you can't expect to much.
