I'm looking at getting a good sword for cutting pratice and maybe killing zombies and mutants in a post apocalyptic world :D and was looking at spending under 300.00 I'm not a traditionalist I just want something that if I swing it a few thousand times it doesnt get loose in the handle and the tsuba doesnt start rattleing around. I came across these two models and was wondering if the pro is worth the extra 30bux.

I have a Practical and all the 3 practical+. The Katana the Waki & the tanto. My standard practical has a wonderful hamon and a beautiful grain to the steel. The fake Same (Rayskin) is a negative but I only paid $100.00 for the sword new. The 3 pluses are also very tight swords for the money and have genuine Same and leather wraps on the handle. But (neil g) was close to correct. I would tell you the Cold Steel Imperial or Warrior Katana is the way to go if you are not a traditionalist. HD(heavyduty) all the way... my Imperial katana is a cutting machine. Hope that was some help!!! L8R.. ~baba~

I have a pratical katana and its a very sturdy sword. I didnt pay much of anything for it, and I think there isnt much that competes with it at that price point. Theres a lot of glue holding the handle together, and the fittings arent anything great, but it all holds up pretty well. The thing is a little blade heavy, though, and doesnt balance amazingly well. Its tolerable, but it may take a little adjusting to. The blade is differentiallly tempered with a real hamon.....it doesnt lose its edge after a single swing, and wont snap in half after two...overall, you could do better than either of those swords, but for what you'll probably use it for I think the pk will work just fine

Don't get me wrong i love paul chen swords i own a tiger katana and love it. It comes down to what you want the sword for, no disrespect intended to ppk & pk owners.

If you want to check out a awesome new paul chen practical, it's the new XL light practical, it has a wider blade and a "blood groove"

hey, the tsuka-ito on my practical is coming loose just under the fuchi...the ito moves around a bit, exposing some of the same and the wood beneath it at the edge. Not a major problem yet, but I havent done anything heavy with it, so Im a bit suprised.
