I am looking for some opinions on the quality of a couple of Paul Chen sword canes.
I have on order a sharpened double edge cane sword with skull handle and also a streight Katana sharpened blade with wood handle and sheath.

they were not all that costly so I don't know that I can expect a whole lot of quality, but if anyone here has some experience with Chen sword canes I would love to hear your opinions.

Thanks, and ciao4now

It's not exactly a cane, but I have a Hanwei (which is Paul Chen I think - though there's a different Paul Chen with Cheness) "forged Zatoichi." For the price I got a lot more sword than I expected. It has a full tang, removable from the handle, and has an actual differential temper and prominent hamon. I figured it was just etched on for looks, and different sites say its real, its fake, so I file tested it - it's real. Very nice piece for under $200. Their red and black Zatoichi's are just toys though.

Which ones are you referring to? The skull-headed one with the triangular blade is quite nice. The bird dog one is a bit off in the balance due to the heavier blade. The zatoichi-styled pieces are just swords, not canes, and should not be used for actual walking.

The black one specifically has an etched hamon, now, any older than 4-5 yrs were real. the brown one is real and then there is even a folded steel version too.

I was wondering why they brown one cost a bit more... Good to know, Im really interested too.

Kim, the brown Paul Chen Zat costs a bit more because it is hand forged and is tempered with a real hamon.
It's a really nice sword for under $200.
His top of the line Zatoichi goes for around $700 and is outstanding.

The only problem with that Zatoichi sword is that of course there's no guard, and the handle is really smooth.

I am trying to find a used sword cane for delivery to London. I have tried Burgers, but they are too expensive for me. I absolutely love the look of them and I collect other antiques. Would dearly love to have one. Is there anyone in the UK wanting to sell theirs?
