Does anyone have any experiance with the Paul Chen Jian Chineese swords?
How do they compare to the Cold Steel Gim.
All the items I have gotten from Cold Steel all came "razor sharp" but I have had bad luck with some to the Paul Chen models that are advertised as "sharpened" but they were not at all sharp.

Thanks for any help.

I used them for practicing jain forms, ive used both the long and standard jians...nice feel in the hand and well balanced...no complaints:thumbup:

Serious fisherman sharpen their hooks out of the box, I do the same w/ every scissor, knife, multi-tool, machete, sword, etc. Why? Because they all need either a better angle or a little polishing.

the ones ive used i actually prefer dull, if doing a form competition the judges check the blade first, if its sharp you cant use it, the big thing for me is weight and feel, say it was a paul chen DOA, when donig a move called "removing the cap" when the sword rolls around your back and up over the should , i couldnt imagine it being sharp, ...but if your gonna get it to cut stuff up then I see your point

I recommend the Paul Chen (Hanwei) Adam Shu series. They are great for forms. historically hard and not springy like the wushu ones. But they are dull for forms practices rather than cutting.

The cold steel gim is made by Huanuo for them, it is extremely sharp but is way too heavy. If you want to use the sword for cutting practice get the Huanuo original which is weighted properly.

I have been using the CAS swords and Katanas for over 10 years, when you call them, tell them you want it sharp, if you have any problems, they will issue a RMA number and send you another, good folks to work with.....But again you have to know the swords, some of these swords are for Iado training, and these are not sharp.

Hope this helps

I had a cold seel gim. it was sharp out of the box and all, but the handle left something to be desired. I would not recomend the cold steel version. Arms and armor just started making a gim, but it is a bit more expensive.
