Anybody know anything about the above axe? I know Chen makes good quality stuff, but I've heard nothing about this 'hawk even among the 'hawk community. Any comments/knowledge about it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Your post has prompted me to look it up and buy one.I'll chop with it,throw it,smoke it and let you know what I think.

I'd be real surprised if it wasn't a stout high quality piece.

I owned a Paul Chen bearded axe once and it was pretty poor, bad edge, heavy, bad balance, bad head-handle fit, and terrible wood for the haft... some sort of brittle asian hardwood. I didn't use the axe for long (or for heavy use) and cracked the handle which was not straight grained and bent the axe blade.

I made the mistake of buying one of these. It's actually a miniture version of a real 'hawk. The handle is about the same diamiter as a drumstick. The head is quite small and is cast. the steel quality is questionable. Both the head and the mouth piece are glued on. The head fell off mine shortly after I recieved it. Picked it up and the head fell to the floor.

IMO, it's more of a toy than a tomahawk.

Can't tell you about the pipe hawk. I do have a number of Paul Chen Francesca Axes. Love them, head and haft finish are great, they stay sharp and are probably the fastest fighting hawks I have. The only problem with any of them (all of them), is that the head was loose on the haft. Solution, soak the top of the haft in warm water for a minute or so, then apply gorilla glue sparingly, fix the head on and let it set.
