paul defender

Very interesting lock, but not very fast. I've owned many "Paul" knives, they were all built well, but not very practicall for EDC in my opinion.

i really like the look of this knife: http://www.agrussell.com/lone-wolf-paul-defender-black-widow-spider/p/LW-D2419SPI/

but i have no experience with the locking mechanism, i have no idea how fast it is.

Anyone got any experience with this model, or a suggestion of a similar knife with a more standard lock? the spider scrimshaw is what draws me to it, and im too cheap to shell out for a burn custom :(

I have one... it is by no means a fast knife. That said, once you get the hang of it, you can open it reasonably quickly one handed. But it's not easy.

How does this lock work? I noticed that Benchmade has a couple of folders with this lock slated for 2011, but I've never seen this lock before.

Do a search for "kershaw orange county leek". This is a great knife, easy to handle, assisted opener, and this model has a spider & web design.

Here is a part, with some exploded drawings, of the original patent;

There has been off/on talk about these knives developing vertical bladeplay after only a short time. I read that there is a tiny hex screw located on the axial that will allow you to adjust this play out.

a shame that it wasnt design as a liner, frame lock.

@ Esav: thanks for the idea, but while i find the design on the defender to be elegant i find the oc chopper folder to be tacky, also i dont want to have anything affiliated with the people of the shop or the show (or any t.v show for that matter) also the leek isnt quite the length and shape i want in a defensive knife.

long story short this would be for ewhen im going places where i cant carry my gun and a tactical folder would look out of place Such as a night club or bar. i want the sense of style that that knife has, as stated earlier i wish i had the moeny for a BURn but i simply dont at this point.
