I picked up a real nice stag handled Thad Buchanan Dixon fighter at the Pasadena Knife Expo about 2 weeks ago.

Thad did a fine job on his sheath, but I thought to have Mr. Paul Long work his mojo, and then I could help Thad make a BETTER sheath by showing him what Paul came up with.

I requested the embossed border and a slightly higher ride, and left most of the rest to Paul. I think he did a great job, and he is very happy with it.

Very nice Paul always does a fantastic job and I really like the simple all purpose sheath

I think he did a great job too :)

IMHO, nothing compliments a good looking knife quite like a Paul Long sheath. Some of the best looking sheaths in the business.

i love Thads work too.
can we see the knife without with sheath?

Maybe someday....someone else has to take the pics, my skills in that area are legendarily poor.

I bet it was hard for Paul to restrain from tooling this one. I believe its the first one I've seen of his with out adornments. Simple Elegance.

The one that you are building for me will have a very similar sheath, Bruce.

Paul said that even though this is a simple sheath to look at, he feels that it is one of his best in overall construction and lines, and I feel the same.

No doubt Paul Long is THE MAN when it comes to fine sheaths. I've never seen one that wasn't superb.

Thad's sheath is structurally nice. Aside for a bad stitch, burnishing the edges and a bit of dye would improve it vastly.

All of those "details" are standard in Paul's sheaths.

As STeven says, these are basically the same sheath. Small differences in the flap area, and the elegant fit and finish integrate the lines and make Paul's craft into sheath art.

This is why Paul makes all my sheaths now, and why I intend to drop by his shop this fall to watch him do his thing. I don't intend to do any leather work as long as Paul will do it for me, but I can still learn from his approach.

I prefer plain sheaths personally, although I also really enjoy looking at the fancy and artistic ones. Paul's sheath here really epitomizes to me what is good in a sheath. There is nothing extra, but again, lines and flow are all important. If they ain't there, no extra adornment will change that.

I think Thad's sheath would really benefit from a good waxing and edge burnishing. Looks really well made, but not finished.

Thanks, my friends for all the praise. Filled my ego completely to the top!

Now a quick word for Thad's sheath. It is well constructed and neat and will be tough as hell in use....and that's really what they are for, right? Further, the knife Thad made for the sheath I made is really a fine piece, and Thad IS a knife maker and does not necessarily refer to himself as sheath maker.

Thanks for the business, STeven;)

Paul

It may be unadorned but the quality sure shines through all the same. Beautiful work.

The first sheath Paul build for me was not tooled in any way as per the customer's request. Simple, clean, and elegant. That's hard to beat.

Small or tall, fancy or dull, Paul does it all. (There's your new motto, Paul :D)

Man, and I love his dull! Nothing fancy, gets the job done in a serious way, and just beaming with leather craftsmanship. Nice job you guys!
