Thats awesome.. but it already had a sheath!!! Glad you got to work with Paul, his stuff is great.

Is that sharkskin in the middle?

Jon,

I've been an admirer of that knife for some time. Jerome was helpful to me when I first began to make knives, and I really liked his and his father David's work.

This knife is part inspiration for a project I have planned for next year, and I was surprised and happy when I saw you'd traded for it.

Paul's done his great job on the sheath. I think that tie's something new, isn't it?

John

Jon,

Yeah, I know it came with one but I did not care for it that much. However, I have become a Paul Long collector and it seemed like the right think to do. John, the tie is how Paul was able to overcome the clamshell and I think he did a great job with that. He also picked up the clamshell pattern on the sheath which I really like .
I suspect I will have amassed enough of a collection by Blade that I will do a post with just his work.

Yes it does have a sharkskin inlay.

Jon

Jon that is another nice combo I like the way the clam shell looks over the leather.

That's a great looking knife and sheath.. Please excuse my ignorance but how is that knife carried? I can't figure it out. I don't see a belt loop or stud or anything. Just really curious..:o

Never thought of collecting sheaths.....probably wouldn't either unless they were Paul's. ;)

Ray, it's a sash style sheath.. the whole thing just slips under your belt, or "sash". I have made many of the sash style but most have either a Sam Browne stud or a custom made stud to lock up on the belt. This one uses the clam shell instead of a stud.

Paul

Thanks Paul.. I wasn't sure because I didn't see the usual Sam Brown stud. I understand now..

A really nice design. Love how the shell overlaps the throat of the sheath. Color complements the ivory.

Would prefer it without the tassel.

Kevin, the "tassle" can slip over and hang down the back out of sight. Note the rear view picture of the sheath.

Jon and Paul, yet an other great looking sheath. I like it a lot. The knife is great but the original sheath wasn't the best part of teh combo. So I'm glad Jon decided to have Paul made a sheath for it.

John, I can't wait to see what you will come up with. By the way both Jon and I are happy with the trade as well.

Guess I'm the lone collector on the other side of the fence and I have had a sheath made by PL who does great work but personally, this knife and another one by another maker, to me, offered a superior sheath for the knives in question compared to what was later created. Not saying the new sheath is not nice but I prefer the originals in both occasions. Of course a damascus tip and throat would have been even better or perhaps a blued tip and throat but the original sheath from the photos looked very nice to me.

Murray you opinion is completely understood and for sure you are not the "lone collector" on the other side. You make a very valid point regarding the sheath the knife originally came with. However, it just is did not appeal to me. Additionally, I seem to be on a PL sheath spree.

I appreciate everyone's compliment's and critiques. This has for sure been a bit of a controversial knife which kind of makes it even more appealing for me. :)

Thanks, Jon

congrats on your new knife and you can never have enough Paul Long sheaths

The original sheath was and is very nice bt the PL sheath is also very nice and I am sure will carry better and I know it will wear better if you would ever choose to carry this knife.

Congrats on all accounts

Jon,
Congrats on your Anders and what a great decision you made having Paul make a new sheath for it !
Looks great, as per usual for Paul.

I have a couple of Jerome's knives, one Bowie that came from Buddy S. with a Kathy Anders high ride sheath.
She makes very nice sheaths but I do like your Paul Long sheath much better.

There are some sheaths that inspire me - and there are some sheaths that just make me want to quit making sheaths.

Paul often turns out stuff that has me saying 'I will NEVER be that good'. I am not trying to be dramatic - his stuff is just flawless.

TF, first you need to discontinue the use of the word 'never", after that if you have the desire to improve it will happen exponentially. I think you do have the desire and the talent so you can expect those results. A case in point...look at the surge of progress our friend Stuart Branson has made. Good Luck!
