.....not that I ever doubt you.....

This project reminded me of something you said to me when we met at the Blade Show a couple years ago....something to the effect that if I look at work I did a year or two before, I would be surprised at how much I've improved......it certainly rings true here.

I made this pouch (the black one) for my fire-fighter brother about 4 years ago. He's worn it everyday he was on duty since, but the belt loop started to give way so he asked me to fix it. I thought I would surprise him with a new one. Since he's retiring soon, it doesn't need to be black, so I made it in horsehide to match the belt I made for him.

I remember knocking my head against the wall coming up with the concept back then, and it was so easy to do now.

Yes, Rick, I look back at the "crap" I was producing even a couple of years ago and just shake my head. A lot of us hit the 95% perfect mark, but those last few points come one at a time, over time. That last case is right up there, but check it out in a couple of years and see what you think then.;)

Honest self criticism is the key to advancement. Good enough is not the same as perfect and always strive for perfect. I am not there yet.

What weight leather did you use for that? Also what did you use to shape the pouch for the multi tool. Did you make a wooden plug or use something else? Looks great.

Thanks Mike...I used horsehide which is in the 6/7oz range. Because horse is so dense, it's probably about as strong as 8/9oz cow. I have a lot of scraps left over for small projects like this after cutting straps for belts.
I used the actual multi-tool (Leatherman Wave) for a mold. Just wrapped a plastic baggie around it, taped it, and had my way with it.
