Well, I was actually on a mission to trade in some stuff to get Super Mario Brothers on Game Boy Advance (hate Mario 3; want to shoot that cartridge...might do that soon).

On the prowl for deals, I came across this sign:

Well, I like great deals, and wasn't ready to fight bears, so in I went. :)

They did not have Mario...but what they did have had me going back and forth for over a week, as I traded in things and added cash at times to get all of this:

Turns out some guy traded in a bunch of his collection, for some reason. I think the reason was so that I could get all of this cool stuff!
Let's look more closely, shall we?

A Case Cutlery Peanut, limited production (1000 pieces), with hunting scene etch (has a deer on the other side):

Then, the Boker Beer Barrel collection of knives. They all have handle scales made from old oak beer barrels.

The Stockman:

The Camp Knife (only 200 made; this is number 171).
Comes with microfiber bag, leather slip pouch, and a chain to attach from knife to your belt loops:

The Congress:

And the mighty Copperhead! This was the first one I sharpened the tips on; as with many traditional knives, they shipped with inexplicably rounded tips.

Then there is the legendary Gerber Mark 2. This one is from 1978, and should be made of L6 steel according to the info I looked up. You may see some Sno-Seal on the blade in spots, as I had to condition the sheath inside and out:

Since I had the Beer Barrel Camp Knife made in Germany, I had to get an extremely German beer to open with it. :D
I got this odd "smokebeer", as it had the most German bottle possible.
The bottle opener kind of sucks though, so I had to change grip on it to make it work:

With my stupid muscle condition, I cannot drink much in the way of alcohol, but I got this tiny 2 ounce beer glass style shot glass so I could have a drink:

It really is smokebeer.
It seriously tastes like you are drinking a camp fire.
You can even smell smoke in your nostrils afterward.
It is a truly uniquely German drink.

Then, today I had the Copperhead with me and decided to get a couple of pics with my coffee on this weird table downtown:

And that is it for my pawn shop finds.

Nice haul. I can't say I've heard of Rauchbier/Smokebeer here before, that being said I am not much of a drinker, and the majority of beer we drink is basically a couple of big brands, I don't know many people who drink specialty beer. As long as it tasted good, it's all good though. :D:thumbsup:

It sure tasted unique. ;)

Im jealous, I see people scoring sweet knives and guns at pawn shops but the few near me are con artists, will sell second hand knives for over retail.

Sweet finds though!

There was a whole bunch of crap there too.
Usually its just the crap, which made finding these so much better.
Seems to be a matter of just checking often enough that you have a chance of coming across the good stuff.

And there are shops here that will rip you off too. We definitely have those.

Dude!

You found my stolen knives! Just send me a private message so we can arrange for you to send them all to me.

:poop:

That Gerber is awesome. Nice score.

I know, right?
I saw it when someone else was holding it.
In my head I was saying "Please don't buy it; please don't buy it; please don't buy it."
Trying to use my force powers to convince him "This is not the knife you are looking for."

I guess it worked! :D

Some real great finds, i especially like the case peanut with the scene on the handle.

Yep, it's a cute little one.
I was thinking of getting one with yellow Delrin scales, so to find a limited production variant was especially cool.

The Rauschbier (Smoked beer) is (as the label on your bottle says) traditionally unique to the city of Bamberg, and it's usually a late winter brew. It's pretty heavy, and very good with Weisswurst (white veal sausage) and pasta or dumplings.

Neat! :)
That is good additional info to have.

My wife and I thought it would go good with fire-roasted meat in a room heated with a fireplace.
I'm thinking of getting some for the next trip to the woods, when we have a nice campfire going.

This. I have been to some of the local pawnshops near me, and those guys will sit there right in front of you and look up their item on eBay, and then add 10% to the price. The most hilarious, the one near my office I went to, that guy did this trick, and then had the audacity to get irritated when I ALSO pulled up eBay on my phone and looked up the same knives. He gave me his number. I said "Huh, ok then." and then I simply used "Buy It Now", turned the screen to him to show him the completed purchase and said "Your sales tactics could use some work" and left. I never went back.

I'm be liking that Camp Knife kit. :) Good photographer's eye! I like your shots. Love to know what kind of coin you dropped on those beauties - but only if you'd care to share. ;) I can narry resist any pawn shop in the eternal hope of snagging an over-looked/undervalued sharp 'n pointy thing. You done good! Thanks for sharing.

Great finds, Stabby! I need to try and hit up some local pawn shops. The problem with most pawn shops these days is they’ve seen too many episodes of Pawn Stars and fancy themselves dealers in La Fino D’Art.

Enjoy those sweet Case LEs!

hell of a good haul there. especially that Gerber. I'm partial to boker tree brands though.

The Tree Brand Bokers are pretty sweet.

The Camp Knife ran me $82; it was the first one I got.
But then the others played on my mind, so I went searching to see what I could trade in.

Traded in a Cold Steel plain edge XL Vaquero Voyager in BD1 steel, a Cudeman Laguiole, a Boker Plus Gnome, and a couple of crappy hollow handle survival knives. Also traded in a Nintendo Zapper (light gun for original Nintendo), a couple of Nintendo cartridges, an old Vectrex cartridge, and a Star Wars "Sand Person" figure. And a couple of Blu-Ray disks. Oh yeah, I traded in a few graphic novels too, although you really don't get much for those. Threw in $60 on top of that.

I never used the Voyager (have an older fully serrated one anyway); the Cudeman was kind of neat, but my French Laguiole is better; the Boker Plus Gnome is cute, but too small a handle to really use much; the crappy hollow handle knives already gave me all the pleasure to be had from marvelling at how craptastic they are. ;) I was bad at those Nintendo games, I have another Zapper, and I haven't had a Vectrex for about 25 years now.

In the end, I am far happier with what I have now, and that's the goal of it all. :)

It sure is, stabman. Thanks again for sharing. Happy hunting.

Happy hunting to you as well. :)

Just remember to keep your wits about you though...in the same store, they had a knife I saw at Dollar Tree for $1.25, but they were selling it used for NINE DOLLARS!!!

thanks for sharing.
A pretty decent score by all accounts.
And a nice mix of beer and knives too.
