I went to a pawn shop I had not been to before. Found a reasonably good Western with the leather double frame handle. Wasn't this called the "H" handle?

I also found a 154OT SFO with blue Derlin handles and a shield that says HUNTING. I haven't seen one like this before. Does anyone have any idea who it was made for and maybe when?

The Derlin is badly oxidized but would probably be real pretty if cleaned up. Does anyone have an idea on how to clean up the handle?

Thanks,
Dale

PS- Paid $20 each.......not too bad.........there are still some nice ones out there.

Codger has a good thread going in the Camillus forum, that shows your Western knife. I believe Western called that a "split tang"...but maybe it was known as an "H" handle as well.

Delrin is mighty tough to hurt, as it were, so I'd try scrubbing it with something like cleanser, or rubbing compound, and a toothbrush. If it's bleached or sunbaked out...??...maybe a brown (or black...:D ) Sharpie (permanent marker) would be absorbed into the scales a bit? That is speculation on my part, however.

Nice finds.

Sorry Dale, I see you already knew about the Western thread. Sheesh! There is a good schematic, showing the handle, over there anyway.

nice finds. I went to a local auction last night and did good. An 8OT NIB, an unboxed 108OT and a unboxed 3OT with the NRA etch. Also got a western like yours , only it had the imitation jigged bone and a false edge, no blood groove like new, a puuko with reindeer bone handle, a REAL HEAVY straight rozor, one of the biggest i've seen, and a kinfolks hatchet with the yellowinsh handle and origional sheath, they were all in one box lot. I didn't really want the kinfolks, so I plan to sell it, but the rest have found a happy home! :D. I think once you clean the oxidation off the derlin, you will find that it is not blue, I have seen OT's in similar condition and when clenaed up the handles are actuallt the brown/tan, however, you never know! You MIGHT try LIGHTLY buffing the handles, then scrubbing with dishsoap and a toothbrush. Good luck

Mineral oil at the drug store.....also used as a laxative..... do not use baby oil
it's cheaper but has fragrance's added.... unless you want your knives to smell like a new baby.

I was in a hurry when I bought them yesterday, I was taking my granddaughter to find a video game at the pawn shop is why we stopped. I HAD to check out the knives and bought the two. After that was my daughters softball tournament. I got home after midnight as the second game went into triple overtime, but her team won!

I just did a little light buffing on the 154 this afternoon and discovered that the handle is actually BLACK!

Oh well, it is the only 154 I have seen in black.

That gunk really distorts colors. I seen a field and stream 154 in black, but the guy that had it thought he had a gold mine, so I didn't buy it. nice finds, I love those surprise knives :)

Good finds! Yes, the "Hunting" knife is a 154 made for Peterson Publishing, along with a "Guns & Ammo" shielded 152 as subscription promos. A forum search should turn up a few threads where they were mentioned. I like the black delrin, and my 152OT, 154OT, 15OT and 165OT with that handle are some of my favorites. Shame they didn't use the black Delrin more often!
