Hi. New to this forum. Just purchased a contego listed as brand new from a pawn shop. Waiting for it to arrive. Upon review I missed the fine print... No box or papers. Got a price of $170.00. I have a 30 day return policy. I am second guessing this purchase now - Why such a low price? Also, do you think benchmade will provide me with warranty services without papers? I doubt this shop is an authorized dealer. Finally, what's your opinion about the Contego's resale value? Thanks for your help.

If it's a genuine Benchmade, then Benchmade will provide you with service whether you have papers or not.

Since you can find the Contego for around $200 NIB at reputable internet dealers, $170 for a "new" one without a box doesn't seem outrageously low to me. Go too much higher than that and you might as well just get one in the box and not have to worry about whether it's really new (or, for that matter, genuine).

The above poster is correct, you really only need the knife for Benchmade's warranty to cover you. They have one of the best warranties in the business.

I do believe you have to register your knife on their website, but I'm actually not positive on that. I did with mine. That's one aspect I'm not 100% with, to register or not to register.. That is the question.

Hope you enjoy your new knife, though!

I've been at this for years and have never registered anything. Did their customer service ever refuse a repair or request? Not once. No questions asked. Good company to deal with!
