Pay as you go/no contract wireless?

I'm in the market for some kind of pay as you go/no contract wireless phone service. I'm using a line/number on a Verizon family plan from a friend now and that will end in December. I'm self employed and work is scarce and I can't afford to get tied up in a contract and high monthly bill.

I've looked around online and TracFone seems to be a possibility...seems they sell cards for minutes that may last up to a year? I don't need that many minutes monthly...but its like throwing money away to buy minutes every 30 days and then the just expire. But some of the cards that will last a year (even though they may cost around $120 or so) don't seem too bad.

I also came across Kajeet...the cell service that's primarly for kids...give parents plenty of parental control behind the scenes thru a web browser application. They offer a minutes/texting plan that would serve my needs. I've read some horror stories in some of the reviews of each.

Boost is another option but not really affordable...I think pay as you go expire after 30 days and the no contract/daily plans are more than what I could get into a low end Verizon plan for.

I can use a land line for outbound calls...I use Google Voice as my advertised number and can call into that to make outgoing calls from either. I just need a cheap way to be contacted when I'm away from home/on the job.

I have virgin mobile LG Optumis V android phone. And it works very well. I am using the 25 dollar a month plan be cause I don't talk much just text and data with it and is unlimited. I am about to get a work phone so pm me if your are interested in buying my phone maybe we can work something out, If not that's cool. But I do like virgin mobile, no contracts and good service has served me well.

I have used Tracfone and recommend it for the year long minutes. I use it now as a family back up phone. I had Boost Mobile pay monthly, no contract. Service was good in my area but in your described situation, it cost more and may not be needed.

I used the service from Tracfone for 6 or 8 months and it worked fine but I got to a point where I needed more minutes/month and switched to the Straight talk service from Walmart. It's still Tracfone but it's only sold through Walmart,I get about 4 times as many minutes/month for the same price plus have text messages and internet on the phone.

I currently use Verizon prepaid and it works great. It has almost all the benefits of the regular plans and you can get a totally unlimited plan that runs about $50/month, among other prepaid options...

Thanks for the feedback. I've decided to try Net10...part of TracFone. From the research I've done, it seem to fit my needs best and the minutes will carry over as long as additional minutes are added from a new card before the expiration of the previous one. Cheap LG phone and a cheap card to try it out at first...not interested in something as high as $50/mo for no contract unlimited...once my business picks up or I can find full time employment then I'll look into no contract monthly plan with more features.
