Pay Pal question?

Here is a question for all your reliable Hogs. I have a truck listed on Craigs list. I have a bunch of interested buyers. One in particular has already said he will take it at the listed price.

He said he can pay cash face to face when we do the deal, next week. But he is willing to pay pal the amount to me now so that I will hold for him till next friday and tell the other interested parties it is gone.

Therein lies my question. I have used Paypal for knife purchases and sales many without any problems at all. I told him if he wanted to Paypal me, I could refunt that if he decided not to take the truck when we meet face to face. But, are there any issues I need to be wary of in doing a car sale pay pal style?. The truck is a mechanic's special, needs a clutch. Only $500 (which is not bad considering it has great BF Goodrich TKO's on it with 90% tread, and the engine still runs, and passed emission, and locking diamond took box.

Anyway, my Hog Bretheren, Pontificate away?

Is there anyway A paypal deal for $500 could go wrong (ie gets the car a week later and then some how cancels the payment etc? I have heard that an overseas buyer can cancel a knife deal once he has the knife, by claiming to paypal he never received it).

Thanks.

OOPs, I forgot, threads are worthless without pics.

One guy wanted to trade me for his .44 mag SuperBlack hawk. And heavens knows I need a .44 mag. But I need to replace the worn out tires on my Xterra more I guess (at least thats what the wife tells me). Also, I really could use a tankbuster, or perhaps an AD/Meaner combo would be a better use, since my Ash 1 covers the mid sized range. Or wait, maybe a medium/large Sar8 for a mid range chopper????

Yeah, they can file a paypal claim and screw you over. But then he'd have to hide the truck. Not to mention paypal is going to take a chunk of fees (which he'll want back).

I'd say just tell everyone it's "sold pending funds" or "sold pending pickup / inspection" instead of accepting paypal.

I agree, make him pay cash when you meet face to face. Assure him that it'll be there until he buys it or chooses not to. You really can't go wrong with a cash sale!

There are two kinds of paypal, Bank transfer and credit card.
Credit card payments can be charged back by the CC company, but not bank transfers.
A dispute through paypal involving a bank transfer is decided by paypal based on the facts.
A car is titled so there would be no denying that they have it.....

In your case, use cash. Take a downpayment if he wants you to reserve the car for him.

You could have him send a MO to reserve the
truck.(dont cash it and return it when the deal happens)
Then he can pay Cash when he picks it up.
If I were in your situation,I would hold it for a week for him
with no reserve BECAUSE you stated
"I have a bunch of interested buyers".
Just relist it if the deal falls through.
Craigslist is free,so you wont be out anything.
Good luck.

As far as a buyer saying he did not receive a knife, just be sure to ship it Via Express Mail International - insured. Then it has to be signed for, and you can track the package it through USPS website.

Why not have him mail you a postal money order to hold the truck. Paypal will generally side with the purchaser in a dispute.

The problem would be, guy gets truck... starts working on clutch... finds out he cant fix it, or it is more involved then what he thought... decides he doesn't want it (now that it is in pieces).... and wants his money back.

Paypal will give him his money back, provided he returns the truck. The problem is, now you have a partially disassembled truck to sell again.

I wouldn't do it. Cash is king!

cash, that's tha deal, and if somebody else beats him out of it better for you. cash!

Truck looks like a steal for 500.00, I would say no to paypal and cash on the barrel head. First come first serve.

Cash... Reciept stating "As Is, As Seen, in need of unknown repair and not drivable"
