What are your thoughts of the "pay it forward" threads?
I think they were brought forth to inspire giving and show people how good it feels to pay it forward. It seemed that some people started making rules and some people were taking and not actually paying it forward. Some people were just going on the thread and posting "If anybody has a... I'll take it." requests. Which in my mind, is pretty far from paying it forward. I was one of the givers that made a rule. Well not exactly, I gave to someone who had previously payed it forward. I did this for two reasons. I didn't want to give up something, to find out that the person that snatched it up, had already taken several things and was abusing people's generosity and not grasping the idea of paying it forward. And second, I wanted to show someone that when you do good, good things happen to you. I know this isn't always the case, but it does feel good to get acknowledged for doing the right thing. It inspires you to give more and it makes it that much more refreshing to have given. I do apologize for doing this because it does somewhat take away from the pay it forward concept. I also don't want to give the impression that one should do things to get acknowledgments. One should do the right thing (paying it forward, helping someone in need, be a good samaritan etc...) for a selfish reason- It warms your heart.
I'm very moved by jimh0220's willingness to start such a thread. It takes a good hearted person to think this way to begin with. I don't know much about the guy, but he seems like a cool dude. Friend request inbound.
For those of you that did pay it forward, keep it up.
