I have few questions and I hope that someone very experienced in Paypal transactions will be able to help me. I want to buy a switchblade knive. The seller accept only paypal payment. Is that ok to proced ? I read now the Paypal policy and there I see : "Knives – PayPal generally prohibits transactions for switchblade knives and disguised knives. A switchblade is any knife resembling a pocketknife with a blade that can be released automatically or by use of a trigger. Other names for switchblades include spring-blade knives, snap-blade knives, gravity knives, and butterfly knives. " Also , on eBay are alot of sellers who sell these knives. Is legal to buy one ? I have a buyer protection ? The model who want to buy is Gerber Automatic Tanto. In my state, is 100% legall to buy one of these , but I want to know here, if the Paypal will accept my transaction and if something happening ( I do not receive the item in good condition for exemple ) , can I ask a Paypal refund ? Because when do a chargeback, Paypal team will ask all the emails about what I want to buy , price , shipping method. Until now I have just a single chargeback when I wanted to buy a book and the package never arrived. And Paypal refund my money. Thanks for all who will be able to respond here. Also , I will not pay with Paypal gift transaction. I will pay with regular transfer , who involve a "buying item "

a) Don't advertise what you are buying.
b) Use a credit card to pay paypal; that way you can (if anything goes wrong) do a charge-back there first, leaving paypal no option.
c) Been there, done that (successfully).

Thanks for the answer.
1) If I don't advertise what want to buy, how can file a dispute ? They will ask me what was the item.
2) Corectly! But , if I do a chargeback with my credit card company , they will contact Paypal . After that, Paypal will contact me , I must tell the truth , and my account probabily will be banned forever ( including my bank account , credit card , adress , phone number ). To open another account, I must change my bank account, credit card , ID and everything.

Aren't automatic knives illegal in the UK?

Are illegal to wear them on the street, not in the house, in the garden ....

Are you sure? Everything I've read says that they are illegal to own, carry, manufacture, sell, and import into the U.K.

I think I remember something about old knives made before 1960 being grandfathered, but even they could not be sold or transferred.

Again, I've done this without losing my account. It has been awhile, so I can't say how it would go today, but I do live where it is legal to own automatic knives. I pointed that out in my refund request.

I`m located in Liverpool. I want to buy the knife from a UK seller , not outside. Also, how can be illegal to buy a switchblade knife? Can you show my some laws about that ? Please .. Thank you

If both you and the seller are in the UK, simply arrange to meet up in person and pay cash. But it is my understanding that carrying even a pocketknife in the UK can get you prison, so be careful about that. But honestly, once the initial novelty wears off, most cheap switchblades are really crappy knives.

Seller is in London (220 Miles between us). So will not be very easy. My question is how do I pay with paypal, and if something happens, I to can be covered for protection Paypal users. I saw that many shops no longer accept paypal,, because it is dangerous for both seller and buyer (both may lose the account and no longer recover the money). And it does not really scare me, but that in case I blocked from my account, I can not do another.

From the UK goverment public information website:
https://www.gov.uk/buying-carrying-knives

I'm not a lawyer, but if I'm reading that right, PayPal's policies should be a secondary concern since "flick knives" are banned and buying and selling banned knives is illegal.

You should continue the discussion about laws in the "Knife Laws" forum here where there are people more qualified to assist:

Bottom line....it's against their policies, is it worth losing your privileges?
You already know the possible repercussion.
What would you like to hear ?

This topic is bordering on the illegal, and it is a gray area to say the least. David, you've been given opinions from several people, do what you must. IF I were you, I would certainly consider the consequences on the extreme end of the spectrum. Living life with whatever a UK classified Felony charge wouldn't sit well with me personally, much less having to pay fines, going to court, potential jail time.
