I tried purchasing a knife today but the seller refused to sell the knife by PP G&S even after I said I would pay the PP fee. He did say Zelle was ok after we started talking but when he divulged the ‘absolutely no PP G&S’ position my spider senses went into overdrive. The fact is he has a small record of, I assume successfull, selling knives and I have zero cred buying knives, he said I could buy it and then file a claim. I can see his point of view but I have mine. Having been scammed on PP once, my point of view/concern is captured in the policy guidance for the group for buying and selling and it says, in BOLD, not to use PP F&F. I’m not whining but only pointing out an inconsistency in the policy/guidance since no one seems to follow it. It seems BF is protecting themselves and I get it but it has soured me on the buy/sell aspect of the site. No hate please. I’m sure 99% of all transactions are on the up and up but there is still the 1%…

There for a while, it seemed that more than 1% were being scammed. There’s plenty of threads in GBU that members posted about their loss. That’s why it’s in bold not to use FF, then the scammers were using seller’s names and giving different addresses for payment. Then, the site mods are trying to intervene and make sure sellers use a timestamp in posted pics.BF members have had their accounts hacked. It’s been a mess around here. It seems like it’s eased up and things are getting better.
I love to scroll through the sales threads to see what is being sold on any given day. It is discouraging to see people wanting FF only. The way I look at it, it’s been saving me money and if someone is hell bent on FF only, It wasn’t meant to be. Most sellers that are contributing members will work with you. The ones that are here only to sell, those are the ones I’m leery of. They neither have time invested here nor do they contribute to the community, so there’s nothing to lose for them if they flake out or pull a scam.
So,here’s my rule of thumb when buying from here, I’ll look the seller up and see where they’re doing most of their posts. I stick to GS only and I buy through DM’s only.
The knives that I’ve sold here have been through the Want to Buy forum and member’s reaching out to see if I have something to sell. I absolutely do not post my email address in threads.
BF is doing everything it can to help people from getting scammed.

The seller can request payment in any manner they choose. The buyer has the right to refuse such manner of payment...just as they can refuse to pay the asking price.

Unless the seller violates the rules of the Exchange, there is no action to be taken by staff...and even in that case, our actions are limited to suspending privileges or banning the account.
