i used to be a rapper so i will post this info (mostly cause i'm bored again)

paracord
no epoxy
using the two closest center slots wrap three rows length ways
then switching to outer slots do it again three length ways and over first three rows
this builds the center body
then
colored paracord
saturated in epoxy
wrap around handle and center body, tight and perfect
then
wide cotton shoelaceing
saturated in epoxy
wrap around in the crossing pattern ending in rear hole (:p )
use blue painters tape to protect areas not to be messed up
use protective gloves handling epoxy (and ky jelly if needed)
mek lightly to clean up mistakes
remember, the colored wrap that shows will turn seven and one/half shades darker when soaked in epoxy.

ok, be a chickensh!t, i'll do it first.

What kind of epoxy is used?
I bought some Minwax Polycrylic last week to use on some wrapped handles and it worked out well.I dipped the handle in after it had been wrapped, two dips with 24 hour dry time, which is probably plenty long. This was just a standard criss cross design with green military shoelaces and they now look black.

seven and one/half shades of dark green huh?

i asked a old guru what he used and should know soon, unless he puts down his cbl and tells us on here.

how did you clean the residue off the rest of your handle?
and did you get any on your hole?:D

None in the hole I kept my fingers out of it.Didn't you?The handle was wrapped and I just dunked into jar and let drip off and dry. It's some sort of new water base stuff.$12- a guart. This post sounds screwy. If you go to the store you get hit with a ton of epoxies,tubes,jars,2 part, one part, all kinds of sht.At first I was going to try polyureathane,or some varnish.A guy I know told me to go to a marine store and get something for boats called V cards boat epoxy? The cord is practically black now.The real way is to use silk wrap.

post a pic of yours if you can. i have some polyurathane resin and hardner that they spray on rafts, it is clear and tougher than hell.
i think i will try ten minute epoxy...

Man! You lost me on the first wrap!

I am comin over so you can show me when I get there...

Without wrapping, that six incher would make one heckuva heavy-duty neck knife.

Come on guys, you can put handles on them! A few pins, some epoxy, a bit of shaping, and you've got the only micarta-handled B out there :D

I have wrapped alot of handles on the knives I make..
I use super glue on the innner cord it does not change the color as much if you do a light coat.. Then when I am doing a Japanese type outer wrap I use this fiberglass repair mix that they use to fix wholes in boats $12@ lowes.. But I put it on after it is wrapped and i use a toothbrush to apply it it will shrink the corp into a hardcore handle.. I usally put two coats on.. I am going to post some handle material F/T latter today..
Brad

The Rigger Coat is another idea. How about that stuff you buy to dip tool handles in.I have seen some CRKTs dipped and they looked okay.I'm going with some sort of wrap and also wood or micarta maybe an exotic. That fiberglass boat repair sounds like I was told about. Thanks for all the tips everyone and have fun. They ship tomorrow so we should all have soon.

how about rhino lining? the stuff they line truck beds with?:)

These are real cool ideas fellers but for me the great thing about a paracord wrap handle is its versatility.By this I mean you can wrap survival gear up in the handle like fish line and hooks, plus the cord on the handle can be used in a pinch. The epoxy coating is cool and all but I'm goin for function on this one.

Yea, I'm going to cord wrap mine Strider-like, with black cord. I guess this will give me a good chance to practice my wrapping and get it down pat once and for all.

Is anyone interested in micarta handles? Does
anyone know of any custom knive makers that would
make them?

With my luck I'll end up gluing one of my eyelids to a nipple with the stuff you guys are talking about!

I might have to stick with the laces from of my old Chuck Taylors and some Plasti-Dip instead:D

:p
