Hi

I played balisong in the past for awhile, and there's no any other kind of knife, which needs so much lubricating as bali. Now i own Sebenza which has phosphorous bronze washers, from what i heard, bronze is something like self lubricating material which don't need any additional grease or oil. When i use militec-1 it seems that it don't connect with it's washers, now is there really a need of lubricating sebbie ?

Sincerely,

In answer to your question, yes, sebenzas do need periodic lubrication, even though they have bronze washers.

Two types of bronze are used for anti friction washers and bushings.

Solid bronze and sintered bronze.

The solid is machined from a bar of cast bronze and requires lubrication. This is the type used in Sebenza and Mnandi knives.

Sintered bronze is made from small particles which are compacted under pressure to form the bushing or washer. The sintered bronze has some void area between the particles. The sintered washers are then impregnated with oil or grease and normally do not require additional lubrication, unless high temperatures allow the oil to flow or leak out.

Rather than going through the motions of disassembly more than once every two months or so, I simply wash my assembled Seb in the sink with warm, soapy water, scrub with an old toothbrush, rinse, and dry thoroughly.

Afterward, I apply Militec-1 onto the folded blade's tang, and then work the knife open and shut about 45 degrees several times until the lube works its way down onto the washers and ball detente.

Works like a charm everytime, and saves me from hunting down the allen wrench more than necessary.

Professor.
