PC BM value question

After all this talk about the PC models on sale at KZ I started wondering...

Pacific cutlery made knives for a while (I'm not sure how long, I'm relatively new to this hobby) and now they are selling for 5 times the original price.

BM is making balis now and when they discontinue a certain model will its price rise or are there just too many 42s and 43s floating around to fill the demand?

Basically I am wondering if they made as many PC models as they are producing now?

Thanks guys.

That's a good question, and one that I bet a lot of us younger/newbie types have. :D I'm curious about that as well! According to Gollnicks' recent post recapping the year, balis are coming back in a big way. I'm very happy about that. :)

One might argue that there's just a pile of 42's 3's and 7's out there now. But, I'd bet that there's a lot more 44s and 45s out there. They made 'em for ten or more years. And yet, NIB, they're fetching $225-$250.

Part of the reason for that is simply that there is a global shortage of good quality balisongs. It's the old law of supply and demand at work. With Tachyon shipping, Monarch coming on, and a couple of other major names in the works, that shortage will be relieved. With more supply, I hope that prices shouldn't get quite so high.

Does this up-comming glut in the bali market of fine grade flippers mean that all of these investment quality balisongs I've been saving might actually go DOWN in value? :(

I think you're old BM customs will be safe, as they're not made anymore. But since the choice in production balis have now increased, people can be choosier about which ones they buy. That may apply to the old discontinued PC/BM as well.

Edited to include: The historical value will also stay, but the dollar amount depends on how much the buyer is willing pay.

Mr. Yoda: One thing about BM is that even with existing production, they always make specific series for collectibilty. You have the Prototypes, the Pre-Productions, and the # First Production ones... The rest just gets lost in the process. The only exception are the 12c27 blades of the 42's, as they are no longer produced.
