PC Problem - Outlook delivers the SAME email every 2 mins...

I got a seemingly innocuous email from a local band announcing their latest gig. I have been on their list, and no probs in the past. This particular email came in on thursday, and since it came in it has repropogated itself on every send/receive for my email accounts. It would have generated thousands, but I have set up a 'rule' in Outlook to hard-delete it as soon as it comes in. I see it for a flash before it disappears, but it keeps coming.

I have been on the phone with my cable internet provider and he actually took command of my screen to try to fix it. He gave me a bunch of tips, but nothing seemed to work.

It is not coming in on the web server. We looked at the webbased email interface and it was clear. He says that the problem is on my PC.

I ran trend microhousecall's online virus scan and my own Computer Associates version. Nothing of note. No multiple versions of Outlook running.

It's come in five times since I typed this.

Any suggestions? At this point, I need a geek better than me.... ;)

download this program but dont do anything it says unless it gives you a box that has 3 choices in it. i cant remember exactly what the choices are (been a long time since i had anything bad on my pc to bring up this box) but you have to choose one before it will continue. usually it is best to delete whatever it finds. however if it continues the scan to the end and only has items listed as "possible dloader trojan" send me the log or post a screenshot of what it finds. i'll look at the log and let you know what to do. it will do an initial scan upon start. once this scan stops, click on c drive, a red dot will appear. click the green arrow to the right and let it run. this could take some time depending on the size hard drive, the ammount of used space and ram in your pc. ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/cureit.exe a download box will appear, save this to a folder somewhere. each time you run it, you should update the program. if there's anything bad, this program will find it.

Hi Richard,

Your file is scanning as I type. Let's see.

Danno: I did block and delete it. It keeps coming back, regardless. Apparently it is not coming 'in'. It is already in and returning....

I'll report back after this third scan finishes.

Have you checked your schedule? You may have something set up to make automatic emails, a meeting or something. Or, double check your rules, you may have something set up to copy instead of delete.

Just shooting from the the hip here, but I've see Outlook do some very ODD things, without virus's before...

I googled the problem 'receiving same email on Outlook' and found a number of similar problems. All the answers pointed to a corrupt email left on the WEB server that would not 'close'.

Finally it dawned on me that I had checked and deleted all the emails on one of my email accounts, but my website email account works off a different server. I checked the web-based interface, and there were 15 messages left, including the original that came in. When I deleted all of them--Voila! No more re-occurrence.

And so it was coming in from outside. Mea culpa....

No viruses either. I'm good.

Thanks!
