To make a long story short, after PCC went out of business, a factory in Japan continued to produce balisongs using PCC's design. PCC had been having its International Series made in Japan and imported to the U.S. It is rumored that the factory that had been producing those knives bought the dies and stamps from PCC went they went out of business, and may even have obtained the rights to continue using the design but only for sales within Japan. In any case, for many years after PCC closed its doors, fairly high-quality PCC knock-offs were sold through a Japanese outfit to buyers in Japan. They were hard to obtain here, unless you could read Japanese and navigate the website. This one was bought by a French collector while he was in Japan.
More recently, new PCC international knock-offs are believed to be coming out of a Chinese outfit. I cannot confirm this, or how the Chinese version compares to the older Japanese version, but I can say that this one is from the Japanese makers.
Although this knife is not an authentic PCC Bali-Song, it is well built and in the style of a classic weehawk. It has thick 1/2" stainless steel handles, much better than the original International Series and much like the PCC customs. Holes are countersunk and the machining is well done. The blade is very well executed and could very well be an original PCC blade. If not, then it was ground to the same weehawk specs. Hidden pins are like the old custom series, and the blade is centered on the handles.
The knife is brand new, never used or flipped, and retains the original factory edge. It latches strong in the open position, but is a little loose latching in the closed position, although it does latch and lightly holds.
I believe this to be a well-made, robust balisong, and a good buy for the money. It is kind of cool as a part of PCC balisong history, but is also a decent knife in its own right. Ahhh, the good ol' days when knock-offs were high quality!
Anyways, you will notice some differences between this knife and the real PCC International Series, but this knife also has some improvements over the original International Series made in Japan. It comes with sheath, which is also a knock-off, and also of high-quality construction.
This knife flips well and looks good. Asking $150 shipped. Thanks
