I just received my reworked PCKS 110 today. Stag with nickel bolsters and BG-42. The previous 110 had a stag scale coloring problem where one scale was light brown and the other was off white, so Shirley said to send it back. Now the scales look good but there is excessive blade play when the blade is in the bolster. When the blade is locked there is no blade play. There are also some small nicks and scratches on the rear nickel bolster.

Am I being too picky, or is the blade play and the nicks and scratches within acceptable standards or tolerances?

I wouldn't say you're being too picky, but I don't see why problems such as this get posted here in the forum first. Doesn't anyone here try to just resolve their issues with a manufacturer directly any more? The folks at Buck especially are very receptive to customers' complaints and/or concerns. I say take the issue up with directly with Buck "in private."

In my opinion I did take up the issue with Buck in private when I sent the knife back the first time. Most people would expect the knife to be flawless when returned after being reworked.

Additionally, this is the Buck Knives Forum where good and bad is brought up concerning Buck, not the say everything positive forum.

Also, since Buck employees visit this forum I am interested to hear there response to this and the responses from other PCKS 110 owners. From the posts on PCKS that I have read there appears to be a quality issue. If this is true then it's a good thing that it's brought up in a public forum so that the problem can be fixed. Don't get me wrong, I like Buck knives and the history of the family owned business and I will continue to buy Buck knives. But PCKS looks to need some improvement.

Ceeberry, Welcome to the forums. There are occasional QC issues brought up on this forum and in every case I have seen the responses from the folks at Buck to always work to resolve any concerns the customer has. I don't think you phrased the question in a bad way and as long as the person posts the results, I don't think any harm is done. Joe seems to always be honest about any issues and uses that input to resolve them if possible. I would just call them and see what they have to say. I personally am primarily concerned if there is blade play in the open position. As long as the blade does not rub the liner when closed, it is O.K. with me. Also, I would not mind some minor scrathes on the bolsters as I carry my PCKS. But if you bought it to collect / admire then you should have it back the way you sent it. I know it is frustrating to have to have something new fixed, I just sent a Custom knife back to the maker to be "tweaked". In the long run it is just a minor inconvenience and it adds a little history to your knife (that's the way I look at it anyway). Let us know how it turns out...
