Hello I ben tring to find out how good is this steel edge retention , rust, ect.

I have a PD-1 knife. Skinned a deer last night with it and it still shaved afterwards. Washed it off and stropped it a few times, now it's back to hair popping sharp. I live in MS and haven't had any rust pop up, but the blade is coated. It is supposed to be comparable to 3v.

I skinned a beef a couple of weeks ago with a ZT 0100 (3v steel); a couple swipes on the strop afterwords, and it was back to popping hair. PD-1 might be a bit better in terms of edge retention. However, I would highly recommend getting a FROG LUBE kit to keep your non stainless protected. I know of nothing better, and it's food grade to boot.

It's supposed to be a pretty tough steel. I had a Z-wear with the 3/4 grind and much prefer the full flat grind. It cuts much better in my opinion.
