I got my repaired PE2 back a couple of weeks ago, but didn[t have it out until last week end. Now understand, I don't usually carry that much hardware to walk the dog
But, we have a free running dog park by the river.
The wife and I took her dog over there to get some much needed exercise (for all three of us!) and took a new trail that led down to the water and walked along it for several hundred yards, only to discover that it was too slippery to go back the way we had come and we couldn't clime the sandstone bluffs.
Within the next three hundred yards or so there was a break in the bluffs where we could with much effort get out of the river bottom. This slope was slippery as well, but we were out of options.
The PE2 was used for things it was not intended to be used for!!! I used it to scrape and dig foot holds in the dirt clear a path through brush abd wild grape vines make a temporary bridge, which also served as a ladder, made vine "rope" and made walking staffs, in short, that knife got us out of there. The blade length and knife weight helped a great deal, because the whole thing was hard enough without using a light weight knife. It made for a long morning, 'cuz we're not kids any more.... how old? Well we remember when FDR was the Pres.
The sand ate the edge up, but there were no chips, so after a good washing and some licks on the India stone, it's good to go again. Love that AUS8 steel. Ats-34 would have been chipped and much harder to resharpin. All steels are trade offs at some point. But that PE2 has proven to be a great knife, real duribelity.
