I have a county comm peanut lighter that I topped off with fuel before storing a few months ago. Today, it didn't work and seemed dry. It worked once I added fresh fuel. Is it to early to call it a piece of crap? Thoughts? Yes, I keep several bic lighters too.

I have a peanut lighter from county comm that I haven't refilled in over a year, and as of right now it still works without any problems at all. My thoughts would be check the o-ring, see if it is cracked or anything. I know that if you crank them down too tight, they will "squish" out and not make a good seal anymore. I guess it stretches them out.

I thought the CountyComm peanut lighter was going to be the perfect replacement flame provider for one of my EDC kits, but the fluid kept leaking out despite my getting heavier-handed when screwing the cap on (until I gave it a real good cranking and trashed the o-ring). I went back to using a small orange Bic lighter, and the peanut now languishes in a drawer with no o-ring.

They are neat little things, but the one I got required too much TLC for my perceived EDC needs.

I've had one for a couple years, and it has never leaked, and I only had to refill it once after I used it quite a bit as an only fire source on a week trip.

Check your O-ring. I had a couple that were filled and worked well over a year in storage (I was deployed for 15 months to Iraq). I just added one to my kit here in Afghanistan since the only fuel available is Zippo fuel.

I have more faith in those "forever matches"(I think that's what they're called) or is it called a metal match ? .. I've tried a number of the fluid holding type lighters with mixed success, by storing them in my truck through the seasons.. That "metal match" has passed with flying colors for the past 4 yrs or so(the one in the truck has gone longer)..I've got about 8 of them all over along with in my truck and packs.. I check them every once in a while just to make sure and they've all worked ..

Just my .02 on the subject.. Best of luck to you !!

I think you mean a ferro rod. Ack, they have so many names. But it's a large flint that you strike with metal to produce sparks. Those are great. But, I was really hoping these lighters would be great long term. Having instant flame without tinder is nice.

That's a permanent match.

I do quite dig those permanent matches.

Have one as a back up for firefighting at work.
