Back in November 2013 I posted about a Peanut my twin brother found this knife when we were pre-teen kids. This knife is 50-55 years old and my twin and I are 53 year old. I wanted to have it rescaled and the pen blade reground.

I cleaned it up and sent it off to glennbad who generously offered to see what he could do. He cleaned it up then and repaired it. He was worried about matching the scales, but I insisted the one original surviving scale remain. Last week he returned the knife to me repaired, reground, and cleaned up. I couldn't be happier. Just need to sharpen it and carry it for a while. I'll sharpen it today and carry it daily beginning tomorrow for about 6 months after which I'll look into giving it to my twin's son, John, along with a TAG Heuer Formula 1 watch I used to wear whose bezel he used to turn as he sat in my lap when he was a tyke.

Before: This is how I found it amongst my junk. Had forgotten about it and didn't even realize I had it. Don't know why I, instead of my brother, had it.

After I cleaned it and before I sent it to glennbad:

Today, after glennbad repaired it: Just need to sharpen and oil it. Glenn, thank you very much!

Can't resist showing my yellow Peanut :)

What a great story and restoration!!! I apparently missed parts one and two so am glad I saw this thread...

Glenn, you do stunning work!!!

Amazing how they haven't changed! Mine is a 2014 - just got it. Leghog's is 50+ yrs old. The nail nick on the main blade is in a slightly different position, but otherwise I can't see any real difference.

If it ain't broke don't fix a great design!!

Yup. Making the knife 45-49 years old. My math was bad.

That's still a heck of an old Peanut! Very cool to rejuvenate it and bring it back to life. Sure would be fun to know who had it before. Where did your brother find it?

Thanks for sharing, fun thread.

That's the best post I've read all week! Fantastic job on the initial cleaning, and excellent restoration work glennbad!

:)

I almost didn't want to send it back. What a great little knife, with the awesome patina on the blades. I wish I could have matched the bone a little better, but sometimes you got to work with what you can find that is close.

It was a great story, so it was really cool to get to work on it. Thank you for that opportunity, Bill, and thanks to everyone for the comments.

Was rubbing the peanut's new scale like a worry stone at work today. A co-worker/lady friend gave me a puzzled look. I told her the story. She was amazed I still had the knife after all these years. She was even more amazed a stranger from the internet would show such generosity as you did, Glenn. She thought it a very cool story. This peanut is a new favorite.
