Howdy all,
OK, this search for a CV bladed peanut isn't going so well. Yellow delrin doesn't trip my trigger, and I'm uncertain about the red jigged bone. (I don't care for too RED red) I've checked out many sites and haven't found anything beyond those.

SOOOOO, tell me about Case's "Tru-Sharp" Stainless. I understand it is 420. Is it at least 420HC? If it's 420J, I will take a pass. Keep in mind I will be using this as a USER, not a collector's safe queen. I also plan on convexing the edge and maintaining it with a strop charged with Bark River's black and green compounds.

Here's a sample of the handle materials that trip my trigger: C. Platts' sons mahogany jigged bone, Black Rogers jigged bone, Pinched bolsters brown bone, Pocket worn Bermuda green bone, and other similar ones.

Would it be worthwhile to contact Case and tell them they need more CV bladed knives in general?

Yea Mongo, I also wish Case had more CV options. I allways find myself drooling over so many of there wonderfull looking handles, but they are all in SS. I do own one(in SS). It's a Black Sodie Jr. from Lowe's. It dosn't have that high gloss finish. It has more of a vertical grain to the blade. 1000 grit, 2000 grit then leather and it is very sharp and usefull! However it resides in a BOB. As for my yellow Sodie CV, 6.5 bone Stockman CV, etc.... Well, you know the story. (CV man here.) Anyway, from what I've heard & read. Case's True Sharp is very good. Much like that of a good SAK. Sounds to me if you put a good Convexed edge on it, you would have yourself a great EDC/ user. Good luck . I will be watching this thread as I too am "tempted". :) M

Sometimes you can find a nice older Case peanut with carbon blades and some different handle materials than those currently produced. If you don't care for the current crop of CV, pick out a stainless with a handle you like and just give it try. Mongo gettin' a peanut, Mongo gettin' a peanut! :D

Its soposed to be a modified 420HC from what I was told, more chromium or something added.. *shrug* The stuff works, whatever it is their heat treat is well done, IMO its nice stuff.

I've used both extensively in EDC work tasks and whittling; can't tell the difference in use between CV and Tru-sharp. The SS takes a slight bit more effort to sharpen to start with, and maybe a little more effort to touch up, but it's a negligable difference, I really have to be looking for it to tell.

Any of these get the blood pressure up?:D

I really like the first and third ones, would make a nice EDC. I carried a stag Peanut for 10 years or more. Can't go wrong with any of them.
Welcome to the Peanut Club.
Jim

My vote is the pinched bolsters brown bone, the last one. I really like the look of those a lot.

I really like the first one, and the last one before the green bone.

Perhaps you should just get them all.

The SS that Case is putting on its knives these days is not a great steel, not up to snuff for the steel snobs. But it is a good steel - a very good steel - for real-world pocketknife use. I carry a harvest orange peanut with SS blades and have been very very satisfied. I've done a fair bit of whittling with it, used it to break down cardboard boxes, cut up a ton of fruit for my kids, and loads more. You know, real-life pocketknife tasks.

It's awefully hard to go wrong with stag. Just personal opinion. They are all good looking knives, buy the one that pushes a button with you. You'll be the one living with it.

I have a bone stag SS and its a good knife. In day to day real world use, like mnblade said, it would be very hard to tell a difference. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I would vote for the third one, but its like jackknife said, you're the one that'll be using it, so pick the one you like best.

I like the second and third... Got one of the C Platts ones for my Mom a while back, and the William Russel one for my Dad. They're gorgeous colors..

I have a circle C bluegrass bone 'nut that is almost the same as that green one, so I wouldn't argue with it.. My next peanut will be either the C Platts one or red bone CV.

Pick your favorite color and be happy!

Tru sharp is well good enough for everyday use in a small slipjoint. You can matte up the blade if it's too shiny for your taste.

Of the ones you put in the frame, I really like that pinched bolster variant, nice difference and a touch of class there!

Here's another: CASE Crandall Cutlery in green bone. The knife I have has some THICK grippy scales in an olive green shade with black.Kind of old skool camo....

Regards W

My first choice would be the CV in red bone.

The handles on the blackened Case peanuts look very nice, but the blades... :barf:

Yellow delrin doesn't trip my trigger... Again, :barf:

If you're going to surrender to stainless, I'd go for the Schatt & Morgan. I like their peanut pattern a bit better - more slender. Build quality is excellent, and the jigged bone colors have more class than the bright red Case bone. A bit more expensive though...

I like the C Platts peanut pictured above. One that i really like that hasn't been mentioned is the pocket worn old red bone. Probley my favorite.
I really prefer carbon steel but I have to admit Case's ss works fine for me.
