Can you sand peel ply carbon fiber down to where it looks like non-peel ply, ie, regular carbon fiber?

Depends on what you mean by "regular" carbon fiber. You can get it to look like matte carbon fiber, or polished carbon fiber, but you'll never get it to have the "depth" of gloss carbon fiber because it doesn't have the thick clear gel coat that gives gloss CF that depth.

Yes, I did it to this Military

Now that looks awesome. I have a para3 in peel ply and it’s ok. Traction is very good, but if I am doing carbon fiber then peel ply is lowest on my list from the look catageory. I think the carbon fiber on the domino is friggen sexy.

That's CF laminated over G10 I believe.

Judging by the weight difference between my CF Millies and my G-10 Millies, I'd be willing to make a small wager that it is all carbon fiber, not laminate if that is what you meant. If you are talking about the Domino, I have no clue since I've never even looked at one.

Found a before and after pic posted by TD22057 of the same fantastic result as BROCK O LEE. It was 320 grit that was lightly used in the other post.

That's a laminate. It's g10 with a layer of peel ply cf. It's not legit through and through cf.
You can sand anything, but not sure how that would look on the domino due to it not being full cf.

Nope, I was only saying I like the look of the carbon fiber pattern used on the domino compared to IMO a boring looking peel ply version of CF. Wasn’t meant to be any reference to what type of material construction used on the domino on how it’s made or any attempt at sanding a domino version scale. Sorry for the confusion. I try to keep from writing long responses on post. I know I usually skip over long winded reply’s at times when other people write books or pamphlets.

I just sanded my Para3 peel ply. For me it was a fantastic mod. Traction is gone but looks are improved 1000%. I had 220 and 1000 grit paper so that is what I used. O my took a minute of sanding each side, easy least.

Word of caution if your going to do it with a para3. The spacer on the blade end has a tiny flat edge only on one side. Make sure it goes back in the correct orientation or the spacing will be off and alignment will be buggered up. It is a little difficult to see if your not looking for it because everything has a polished surface. The washers will most likely stick to the blade so account for both of them before you move things around. You need two of them when reassembly happens.

Make sure not to inhale the carbon fiber dust as it can cause irreversible damage. Highly recommend a vacuum vent, with a filtered face mask. Also carbon slivers in your skin is beyond painful. Wear some decent gloves and sand wet. Clean up the mess so it's not around to cause more issues later.

Being safe with cf doesn't seem like a big deal but it really is and it's easy to be safe about it. I don't think this gets mentioned enough. I wouldn't let this discourage doing this, just be safe about it.

Form over function?

One benefit I find now with the sanding done. No more frayed pockets with the smooth side against the pants. And the cf has now turned into my gentleman folder version of a para3.

You sure can. I've seen many people do that. Just be sure to wear breathing protection.
I can't stress that enough what Spyderco-Dude said about "breathing protection". Because about 15 years ago I met a machinist that did a lot of work with Carbon Fiber and he told me that the dust from CF is even worse than asbestos and most other synthetic materials. Even the asbestos substitute material that they use to cover industrial pipes with is also a very dangerous material when airborne.

I worked once in a foundry where I ground out defects in railroad wheels using extremely high speed, high cycle Bosch grinders. The abrasive from the grinding wheels ultimately killed all the guys working in that foundry that didn't use respirators. Protecting your lungs is far more serious than most of us realize. I love Carbon Fiber handles for knives but I have the same respect for it as I do asbestos or any other potentially dangerous material.
