hey guys

just recently acquired an s90v millie from a friend

just looking at the front scale the carbon fiber seems to have a golden hue to it is this normal?

usually from what i have seen it is just the standard black CF with no golden hue

is there something wrong with mine?

yes, its a defect, send it to me and Ill pitch it for you :p Or you could buff it and make it pertty like all the old school cf models

You have good taste, one of my favorite knives ever. Post some pics and Im sure you will get a solid answer

my USER when I got her

Maybe it's a reflection from the lemons.

Put it with some limes, and see if the hue turns green. ;)

haha no optical illusion when i put it under natural white light it also retains the golden hue to it

any ideas?

is this a different batch of carbon fiber or something?

I have a BG42 with the same hue, i really like it

ETA - i have also seen a blueish tint in another one of the CF Millies i used to own

My guess is your Millie was on display in a lighted cabinet, correct? It's from sitting in direct light, either from a display cabinet or sunlight. I first noticed the same discoloration on my BG-42 Millie on the clip side above the pocket line, where it is exposed to light (mine gets carried alot). The next time I noticed it, was on a display model in a gun and knife store. The side that was exposed to the harsh light from the display cabinet had that same golden color. I bought an orange Ladybug from the same place and the display side scale was also faded, but nothing a little orange RIT dye couldn't fix.

It does seem that the CF can get "sunburned". :(

Billy516 makes some very valid points. And since its uniform, it helps to not become OCD, at least it would help me lol. If it was just a spot i would probably become ocd about it. I don't believe there were color variations for this model, but remember there are many, many color variation CFs. Of which I wish would be employed by spyderco. For example look at the aftermarket automotive industry, they have many colored CF weaves, and some of the custom scale makers have a white cf which looks really sweet because it still maintains that textured weaved. Anywho, if you havn;t already, what about some oxy clean? maybe it has become oxidized to some extent? I don't really know what else to say it isn't my forte so please do take it with a grain of salt.
