The way my GSO-5.1 looks today - apologies for the poor lighting, sky is overcast this morning. The darks spots you see are dirt/sap that I haven't scrubbed out of the finish - I am not overly concerned with how my outdoor tools look, so long as the continue performing as needed. The shiny/white parts are where the finish has been scraped by metal or rock, and I cannot detail whether it is more the result of the finish rubbing down or the extraneous material being rubbed in since the edges of the jimping, which were intentionally abraded with a hone to soften the edges, are not as shiny as those marks on the blade:
