Peening brass without solder?

I have it, from a reliable source, that with 3 pins and enough peening I don't need to solder a brass bolster.

I don't doubt this guy that it'd hold just fine. However, I'm worried about the electrical effects between brass and steel if water gets in there - hidden rust.

Shouldn't I have a least epoxy, JB Weld, or locktite to keep the water out?

So what's a good way of sealing bolsters after they have been installed on a knife? My thoughts are to use a thin super glue and let capilary action pull it under the bolsters.

If it was me, I would apply some jb weld then
peen the #$%#% out of it. I would also cut the
bolsters a little wide an role the edge a little.
That way no gaps will show after you grind to fit

I use epoxy under the bolsters to seal out water. You can't see it. Haven't soldered bolsters or guards in a long time - what a mess!

For steel bolsters or guards, I use JB Weld. It doesn't match but it's not that far off and it takes a temp of up 600 degrees when finishing it up on the grinder. On brass, I'd use epoxy as it's clear but it doesn't handle temps of over 250 very well so you have to pretty much have it finished before assembly or keep it cool when finishing.
The pinning is what holds the bolster in place. The epoxy keeps it sealed up. Since yours is done already, I'd try thin super glue as a sealer

My concern with using epoxy or JB weld is the fact that I couldn't see how you'd keep it off the pins and that it might prevent the pins from disapearing into the surrounding bolster material. I'll have to try the clear epoxy next time and just get a smear arround the edges of the bolster material, doesn't seem like it would take more than just a smidgin.

Since I'm going to have to seal it with super glue after the fact does any one have any ideas on clean up after the glue sets up?

yes use epoxy, one called weld it silver in color and 5000lbs of hold power..and if you peen the pins you can't hardly see them hope this helps you ...david
