Peening end of tang on knife from stainless steel

Ok ,soon i will start with some work with stainless steels .Most time I like to make hidden tang construction /make knife to be light/ so i will need to peen tang on but .Can that be done on annealed stainless steel like we peen 304 SS pins ? Will not crush ?

You will need to use a small, light hammer to move the metal at the end only.
 
When I make stainless blades that need to be peened (usually for puukkos) I weld a small piece of inox at the end .

Thanks , that would work for sure .When you weld inox , before HT or after ?
There are many way to do that , but I want to do that on tang from steel which knife would be made ..............
