Im looking to get a pelican case to store my knife collection in but Im not sure what size to look at? I want to know what size case you pelican owners use to store your knives and how many knives you can fit in that case. And are you happy with the case as for knife storage? Thanks

Not happy. My "needs" change and the foam doesn't like change more than once. So then I just bought two egg carton style foams and place knife on top of that, then foam over that and it ends up being super tight to close. That way the knives won't move around, seeing as how I don't pluck anymore. It holds about 10 small and medium fixed blades for me.

Folders go in Bob's custom knife cases. 6 packs, and a 12 pack arriving this week.

Everything else is on a shelf, another shelf... or in a bag O_O

1500 is probably the most popular for folding knives. It is about the perfect height and you can fit a good 20+ knives in there depending on how you organize and put them in there. Very popular choice among collectors.

Right now Im using a padded ZT knife bag which works great and all but always wanted to try the pelicans everyone talks about. I also have several hand gun cases I use by laying knives down flat so foam is on top and bottom, this holds them very tight. Was hoping Pelican case would cut down on the number of cases I have also by holding around 30 knives

I've got a pelican 1500 sitting beside me, and depending on how you put them in, I think you could put a lot of weight in there. It all depends on how you pack them. If you use the full depth of the box and stood the knives upright, 20 would be in there with lots of room. laying flat in layers, you could probably fit 60 or more. Just packed in there in rolls, I could see over 100 fitting.

I have five Pelican cases of various sizes that I use to protect gear when canoeing. For my purposes, they are excellent and well worth their cost. For storing a knife collection, though, a Pelican case seems like expensive overkill. Why does anyone need a costly waterproof and shock resistant case just to store knives?

If you don't want to spend the money for a big old Pelican case, you can get this aluminum case off Amazon for $26: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005IHT32Q?ie=UTF8&at=&force-full-site=1&ref_=aw_bottom_links

I use it to store my knives and it works great:

The off-brand pelicans aren't bad either, they don't sell factory seconds as pelicans, but you can find cheap cases, I think the defining factor is the two-part latches. They might not be waterproof, but you should have a desiccant pack in there anyway.
