Hi, I recently had all 34 of my pelts ruined by bugs 13 coyotes, 7 grey foxes, 13 kit foxes and 1 badger. My question is what is the method you use to store your case skinned pelts?

Forgive my ignorance on the subject as I am new to it but, were they tanned? Also, by "case" is that the same as "tubed out"?

Thanks for the reply. Sorry about your pelts, that is terrible. A lot of work goes in to each one. I don't have an answer for you other than my taxidermist told me to put mine in garbage bags and then in the freezer.

Freezing skins is reported to cause some degree of fur loosening. Heavy salting then drying is my understanding of the best way to preserve skins prior to tanning.

That's never been a problem for me. I hang mine outside in my trapshed to keep mice and shrews off them after they dry.

I have stored them in a large paper bag with cardboard between each one and mothballs not touching the hides.

Were these for personal use or for the fur market?
