Has anyone had a bad experience with a Victorinox SAK pen leaking/exploding or anything? It seems like it could be an issue, especially if all of the ink got traped under the scale

No reason it couldn't, but I have never heard of that happening. Keep in mind, though, that in the worst case you can always send it in to Victorinox and they will fix everything back up for you. You can usually remove and replace the scales yourself too.
