Pen knife

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=233151&highlight=penknife&page=11

I just read the Official Pen Review thread and found it very interesting; but the pictures didn't show for me. Does anyone have pictures of this interesting knife before, or during, or after it's travels.

Hi Heinlein,

Only pictures I have are from a just completed sale thread from a couple of weeks ago. This was an antler 12" and 12 oz. by Bura:

I had four of them at one time, a 12" horn, a 15" neem (with very unique hard brown/grey/green neem wood), a 15" antler, and this one.

Stupidly I've deleted the pictures of the sold knives. This was the nicest 12" though, true to the design Dan Koster (Pendentive at the time) came up with, which is why I hung onto it for so long. Only complaint I've heard about the 12 inchers (that was addressed by the 15's) is that the handles are a bit short for some folks.

The 15" models were also very practical and excellent camp knives, but I had to clear some stuff out a few years ago and a 15"-16.5" AK worked as well or better (not for turning pancakes though; these excel at that!) The 15" antler made a striking mate to this one.

I believe a forumite master collector who lives "Down Unda" is going to be using this one to turn shrimps on the barbie... :D Glad it went to a good home.

Norm

Norm that is the single most beautiful PK I have ever seen. Bar none, that is a work of art. The Ol' Himalayan Tactical Spatula:D

I have a very worn but tried and true 12" AK done by Bura that rides in a bucket in my jeep. It's never let me down. It's chopped through roots, split kindling, and even pulled a nail out of my tire:rolleyes:

It doesn't see much use often, but it really likes living in the jeep bucket:)

Thanks Svashtar for the pics of that great looking Pen knife. Unfortunately due to my not explaining myself correctly they were not what I wanted. What I was hoping to see was some pictures of the particular Pen knife used in the link I provided in the first post, showing the alterations done by Ferrous Wheel, Yvsa and others.

OK, heinlein, you mean the prototype that the forumites reviewed, the one Pendentive passed around to Cantinistas in the world-famous indestructible shipping box? That was a prototype and if I recall correctly, was sent by Bill Martino to Nepal to serve as an exact example of what to make. (The kamis sometimes being over-zealous in their interpretation of "make it sturdy.:) )

It either stayed in Nepal, Pendentive has it, or it was gifted waaay back then.

You might want to check via email to Kostner if he still has the image.

Good luck.

Thanks Jake, but all I can say is you should have seen the 15" antler! They made a beautiful matched set. I was such an antler freak I must have had 20 pieces of it and now I'm selling a bunch...:) In the last month this, an antler sarge PH, antler kerambit, etc. That's OK, I was just not enjoying what I had so decided to only hang onto the ones that really mean the most, which are mostly standard kukris.

This was a beautiful knife but wasn't being used so am really glad it is going to Australia.

It strikes me as odd that the "pen knife" is larger than the Bilton! The words pen knife conjur up a tiny little 2" knife in my mind! perhaps that's just me though.

The name is just short for "Pendentive" which was the forum name of the guy who came up with the original design, Dan Koster.

I was such an antler freak ...

Isn't everyone?

Don't I know it! ;)

And I'm so glad it did ... I had not seen any photo's of it before these here. But I did see a photo of the PH antler and I think it is beautiful too.
Maybe one day it will rejoin its kin?

Many thanks to you Norm.

Regards,

bruce :D
