I have terribly messy writing

It's small and cramped, much worse with clumping and smearing

I find it's better with the new gel pens

I like the reliability of the fisher space pens and the ability to put them in the all stainless Parker jotters

However the mediums are super messy

I order the fine space pens refills online and carry space pens in my pocket, as well as a Parker jotter with space pen refill in the car
I love the reliability

However
If I want to do a lot of writing, I want something different

I'm looking for inexpensive, gel or oil gel ( I tried one) in very very find tip points like .5mm
Something that dries quickly and doesn't smear.
Black and blue

The gel pens I've used have always smeared, so I no longer use them. Afraid my vote would be either for a Fisher fine or extra fine refill.

I use a Parker Jotter with a Schmidt Easy Flow 9000 refill in my office at home. At work I use the same refills but in a different pen. They are advertised as a hybrid of a gel and a ballpoint. I used to use fine point Fisher Space Pen refills but I just couldn't warm up to them.

I believe the standard Schmidt refills that I use are .7mm. I drew a line just now and immediately attempted to smear it with my finger. Very little smear but there is some. More like a ghost of a smear. If I wait a few seconds there is no smear at all.

I'm not a connoisseur of pen refills by any means but I've found my favorite in the Schmidt Easy Flow 9000. They are a joy to use in my opinion.

The Schhmidt refills are really nice. They write smoothly and as Railsplitter says, they don't smear.

I picked up a Prometheus Alpha pen which uses Mont Blanc fineliner refills. My favorite system now. The refills screw into the pen tip, rock solid, no springs or clickies. Not the longest lasting but I no longer do long texts by hand. I love to draw with them, though.

I'm a fan of the way Pilot G2 .5mm gels write. Dries very quickly, and unlike the .7mm doesn't blob. Hard to find in stores (I think Staples has, or at least had them), but Amazon or eBay will have them, and cheap in bulk. I just wish they were more durable - I'm always breaking off the pocket clip when it snags something (I carry them in my back pocket). They do have a more durable, premium version that's classier than clear plastic, but it's also thicker. I really wish there was a gel ink refill for the Zebra F series.

The Japanese imported Uni-Ball and Pilot disposable gel pens write some of the finest lines that I've seen, if you can find a store that stocks them.

I guess they use them in Japan to draw the Japanese symbols they use instead of letters

The Uni Ball Signo 0.38 is an ultra fine gel pen that I've used. It's REALLY fine. you can find them on amazon etc.

The Pilot G-Tec C4 is another ultra fine disposable gel pen. I havent used this one but I believe its similar to the Uni Ball

I like the Parker Extra Fine ball point refills which I get on line. They run a grease based ink but have little tendency to blob.
