I have a Surefire 4 pen that I need a new refill for. It uses a Parker style refill. What is the best? I would like a smooth flowing, bold line. Maybe like a gel or rollerball type. I would love a refill like the Pilot V5 Precise uses but have not seen one in the Parker type refill.

Schmidt Easyflow 9000. Run, don't walk, to get them. Actually, just order them from amazon. You'll thank me later. And before anyone says to get a space pen refill, have you guys actually written with fine pens before? Fisher space pen refills write like garbage. Sure, you can use them to write under water, but that doesn't change that they write terribly.

Agreed on space pen. Avoid unless you need to write underwater.

I second the Schmidt... and if you plan on going into space, take a pencil, they write better than a space pen.

Schneider Slider 755 XB, in black, blue, and red. I've gotten mine at Office Depot, which has a Schneider dump/end cap in the pens and pencils section, but you can order the refills online. XB = extra bold.

I used to use Parker refills (bp and gel), but switched after trying the Schneider refill. The red is OK, but both black and blue are solid and bold.

I have used the space pens and did not like them. I was looking at the Slider 755XB on ebay last night. Think I will try them.
Thanks

u832, I have always found Parker bp refills have "weak" ink colors, meaning not very bright or solid. Yes, the refills write a long time. Great, but if the color's unsatisfactory, what good is longevity? (I have some 50 year old jotter refills — and they still write that same old pale blue they did back in high school.)

I was delighted at first with Parker's rollerball refills — dark, solid colors, almost as good as Pilot's G2 — but they ran out pretty quickly and had durability and operations problems.

I'm left-handed, and I push the pen across the paper. My hunch is that that action tends to drive paper fibers up into the ball mechanism in the refills, whether bp or rollerball. Depending on how they're built, the action may work OK or it may gum up. Right-handed writers draw the pen across the paper and any loose paper fibers tend to not to collect on the refill ball.

Anyway, 755 XB refills have worked great for the past several years for me. Good luck! (Amazon also has them if the 'bay draws a blank.)

I love the pen talk on blade forums. He he...

I went to fountain pens a few years ago and never looked back. If you want some truly strong and bold ink, that's where you end up. They're not practical for most people though.

Inks have improved so much from the past. They even make a super fast drying ink for lefties.

I use fisher space pens all the time. They work just fine for me. I just recently filled a whole notepad and moved to the next one. Sure you can write underwater, but the real advantage for me is being able to write in freezing weather.

Is there any other pressurized refill that does that? Working this last winter in Chicago...any other pen would freeze up.
