You need Dan's expertise for this one Brendan, when I put an old file to the grinder I just picture in my mind how the blade's going to look and grind away any metal that's in the way.

Just tried it with a triple hump bowie (busse) but the billet is only 9 3/4 inches long so it will be small !!


The distal taper is screwing everything up too !!

Metal is equally thick for about 5 1/2 inches then it tapers for 4 3/4 of an inch. Thickness is 4 3/4 millimeter at the thickest (for 5 1/2 inches then goes down to 1 1/2 millimeter !!

Two Dogs maybe you should quit thinking large and tactical and think smaller and hunting/skinning. The distal taper as you describe it would be perfect for a Bob Loveless style drop point.
