I noticed the Pena X Bronco slip joint is listed on Blade HQ. The knife appears to be excellent quality and the fact Pena is involved is a plus. The Blade HQ description did not show the country of origin. The only markings on the knife on Blade HQ is Pena X. I started a little research and found a U Tube video from Daddy O EDC and I thought he did a good review of the knife and had some valid comments. He apparently got the knife from Knife Joy. He did comment the knife is from China and it is not made by Reate and he went on to say the knife is of Reate quality. He apparently got this information from Knife Joy.
I E mailed Blade HQ asking about who made the knife and they did not know. I have nothing against China however I am really curious who made the knife. I do own a JE knife from China and the quality is very nice. The Pena knife is a production knife and according to Daddy O EDC the blade is ground by Pena himself which may or may not be the case.
If anyone has any information about this knife I am very interested where it is manufactured and any other comments.

- thanks for sharing. It most certainly looks the part - very handsome looking piece.

More and more big name designs seem to be being manufactured by firms in China/Far East.

You only have to look at the quality of some Spyderco products from Tai Chung 3~4 years ago to realise what's going on.

Only this week I received a knife from USA, designed by Ray Laconico, the MBK - EWC. It is a contemporary slipjoint in c-f with detente - so it is a legal folder here in UK with a cutting edge under 3" and non-locking.

The quality, from wherever it was made in China, is excellent to say the least.

These days my preference is towards natural scales - particularly Stag and Horn - so the Phoenix Stag from JE Made keeps winking at me

I believe Enrique said his X series are made by Reate. I seriously doubt he grinds the blades. He had Bronco X’s on his table at Blade.

Well, I went ahead and purchased the Pena X from Blade HQ. I have been very fortunate enough to purchase some great quality slip joints from around the world.
I started out my knife collecting venture with modern flippers and went from all different types of knifes trying to find the perfect knife. The ride has been nothing short of great. I also wanted to find the perfect every day carry and so far I have ended up carrying the Spyderco Sage 5 compression lock. It just fits my hand and fits well in the pocket. Has a good blade and has been up to all of my cutting tasks.
So far all my knifes have been perfect and I have ended up back to slip joints. It is truely unreal how far knife quality has come and some are sure works of art. The fondle factor has been great for all knifes.
When I get the knife I will let all know how I like it in hand.

Congratulations on your purchase. That is a very fine looking knife.

Just received the Pena X Bronco. Beautiful knife.
Knife is quality. No issues. Looks like a custom. Edges are perfect with zero unevenness anywhere on the knife. Perfect centering.
Blade is sharp and ready for hard use. Blade is steel is quality, S35vn.
The only issue I have with the knife is it is extremely hard to open. NOT for weak hands. I mean the pull is 7-8 on a scale of 1-10 with 10 not opening. I doubt break in will make a difference.
Closes OK. It is very stiff to close. Pena needs to get ahold of Lionsteel about how a knife should open.
If the knife was $600, typical of Pena, I doubt it would sell with the difficulty in opening. It is that good of quality. Maybe it started out as a custom and realizing the difficulty they decided to unload as a production to get rid of the inventory.
Only Pena knows. It sure would be nice if they stated who made the knife.

Is the pivot tension not adjustable?

It is adjustable. Made no difference. It is still a hard opening slip joint. I guess I will start having to do more finger exercises. Or maybe I have been playing with my flippers too often. Anyway, it is a nice addition to my collection. My carry knife is a Spyderco Sage 5 compression lock which opens and closes like a champ. It is a hard use flipper and I do put it through the motions. Always appreciate the input as it is easy to miss the obvious some times. I did not take it apart however I did give a good lub.

- with a slipjoint, doubt very much the pivot tension will make any difference, unless it was too tight in the first place. Most definitely a pinch-pull to open this baby.

A very robust pocket knife obviously, looks really well made in the vids

If he ever does inlay of Rams Horn, Stag or similar it'll add more character imho, would have one then :)
