I have a Pendleton Mini Hunter in VG-1 and it is one of my favorite knives. I plan on picking up the new version in 3V in the next few days, but after doing some cruisin on the interwebs I found a couple places that mention this knife in AUS-8.

Were the first Mini's AUS-8 ? If they were, I may pick one of those up as well, just because. I know many consider AUS-8 to be outdated, low grade steel, but I've had other CS knives with this steel, and I don't have any complaints.

The 3v mini has not been released yet. I will get one the day they are released. I have never seen a mini in steel other then VG-1. It's pretty common to dealers to call much or Cold Steels offerings AUS8 just because they are so widely known for it.

Not sure what I was thinking when I wrote the post earlier. I knew they hadn't been released yet :o I'm looking forward to getting the 3V version. I don't have any complaints about the VG-1, but the 3V should be great too.

I was thinking the same thing about the AUS-8. I wrote one particular seller and asked it they could verify that the knife was AUS-8, but I haven't heard back yet.

I seem to recall that the original steel for this knife was AUS8, but I might be confusing it with another one.

Yes the first Pendleton Hunter and Mini Hunter appear listed as "Aus8A" in the 2002 Cold Steel Catalog which does not list VG1 yet as one of the CS steels.

Good find. I couldn't remember them back then.

I have one of these in Aus8a, used extensively as the small knife companion ( karda) for my CS GURKAS Nice paring in the outdoors/camping etc. Easy to keep razor sharp w/ the DMT serrated edge sharpeners and a ceramic rod. I love the little guy so much I wish I had bought 5! They're like the older Aus8a medium clip point voyagers. You end up actually using the small inexpensive stuff way more than the Natchez size offerings.
