Hi
I want to buy another Emerson (i got Karambit), and I'm looking for a knife with high penetration power. A knife that can penetrate thick clothe, leather, tin ect.

I'd like to read your opinions, and recommendation on the matter.

Thanks

Eytan

Persian. Do a search for edwood's test of the Emerson Persian and the BM Bedlam vs a bulletproof vest.

That was a good comparison.

I would think the Gentleman Jim would have good penetrating abilities with its long slender blade. Or perhaps the new El Bandito which looks even slimmer.
I don't own nor have used either though.

That's what I was thinking as well.

Keep in mind that the CQC6 was specifically designed to defeat body armor.

Call me crazy, but I would pick a plain old CQC-7BW. A seriously strong tip with the chisel grind giving less resistance during penetration.

That would be my choice also.Although that El Bandito looks like it would be pretty stabby too.

I love EKI knives don't get me wrong but I haft to say Spyderco Szabo > any EKI knife this coming for an emersonholic....

Not to derail the thread....and im not a disbeliever in liner lock strength....but can the liner lock handle stabbing beyond soft matter? Ive seen the pic of the lock defeated as it should and stopping the blade from closing and taking off digits.....but I grew up with slip joints and I never really got over seeing a lock as nothing more than to hold the blade open. Still til this day use all folders lock or slip joint like a slip joint. Appreciate the feedback.

In the link above, edwood stabbed a Persian and a BM Bedlam into some Kevlar body armor. While it is rated to stop ballistics, I think that's still pretty impressive. I don't plan to test my liner locks in this fashion but I wouldn't doubt them if the need arouse. A well made liner lock can be quite robust.

The last bit is a good rule to live by. Murphy's Law.

Sage advice, jb. I have never had any lock fail me, regardless of type. As you, I treat them all like slip joints and I have never regretted it. As for Emerson locks, I trust them fully in normal use, but I don't consider stabbing as normal use. If I had to stab something, it would be an emergency situation with my neck on the line, which is potentially worth a couple of didgits. ;)
